Abstract: An electric motor comprises a housing, a stator mounted stationary within the housing and having end turn windings, a rotatable central shaft, a rotor mounted onto the central shaft for rotation within the stator, the stator, central shaft and rotor all positioned co-axially within the housing, a rotor end ring mounted onto the central shaft adjacent an axial end of the rotor, the rotor end ring including a body, a plurality of outlets adapted to allow coolant to flow from a back side to a face of the body, and a recess formed within the face of the body, wherein coolant flowing through the outlets flows across the recess toward an outer circumference of the body, and the outer circumference of the body is configured to prevent coolant from flowing into a circumferential air gap between the stator and the rotor.

The permanent magnet electric motor further includes a stator. The shaft defines a jacket configured to receive a coolant. The jacket is disposed about the longitudinal axis. The jacket is elongated in a first direction. The first direction is parallel to the longitudinal axis. The rotor defines a plurality of longitudinal channels. Each of the plurality of longitudinal channel is elongated along the first direction, and each of the plurality of longitudinal channels is in fluid communication with the jacket to allow fluid flow between the jacket and the plurality of the longitudinal channels.

Abstract: An electric propulsion motor system includes a rotary electric propulsion motor that has a stator and a rotor. An air gap is present between the stator and rotor. A fluid circulation system provides pressurized liquid and gas, which is directed through fluid passages in the stator and/or rotor and into the air gap to establish a mixture of pressurized liquid and pressurized gas therein. The pressurized gas dilutes the mixture and pushes the pressurized liquid and pressurized gas against the stator and rotor, forcing it to exit the air gap at the opposite ends of the motor leaving the air gap free of accumulated liquid.
