    Abstract: A system for converting energy includes a doubly-fed induction machine including a rotor having a plurality of rotor windings, and a stator having a plurality of stator windings. The system also includes a power conversion unit in electrical communication with the plurality of rotor windings, where the power conversion unit is configured to excite the plurality of rotor windings with an alternating current. The system also includes a relay unit in electrical communication with the plurality of stator windings, where the relay unit is configured to electrically interconnect a plurality of terminals of the plurality of stator windings. The system also includes a controller in electrical communication with the power conversion unit and the relay unit, where the controller is programmed to adjust an operation of the doubly-fed induction machine using the power conversion unit and the relay unit based on the rotational velocity of the rotor.

    Abstract: An energy transfer system of a vehicle includes a multi-winding motor, a first inverter connected to a first set of windings, and a second inverter connected to a second set of windings. The system includes a controller configured to control the first inverter and the second inverter to control a charging current through the multi-winding motor at a desired power when the multi-winding motor is in a zero-torque condition. The controller is configured to control the charging current through the first inverter and second inverter so that a first current vector associated with the first set of windings and a second vector associated with the second set of windings are symmetric about a d-axis and the multi-winding motor functions as a transformer, the control of the first inverter and the second inverter providing for power transfer between the first set of windings and the second set of windings.

    Abstract: An electric propulsion motor system includes a rotary electric propulsion motor that has a stator and a rotor. An air gap is present between the stator and rotor. A fluid circulation system provides pressurized liquid and gas, which is directed through fluid passages in the stator and/or rotor and into the air gap to establish a mixture of pressurized liquid and pressurized gas therein. The pressurized gas dilutes the mixture and pushes the pressurized liquid and pressurized gas against the stator and rotor, forcing it to exit the air gap at the opposite ends of the motor leaving the air gap free of accumulated liquid.

    Abstract: Some embodiments disclosed herein are directed to power transfer in electric motors having segmented windings. In some embodiments, a control system may determine a d-axis command voltage for a secondary winding of an electric motor and a q-axis command voltage for the secondary winding based on a primary winding voltage, primary winding current, secondary winding current, and rotor electrical position. The control system may generate gate control signals based on the determined d-axis command voltage and q-axis command voltage for the secondary winding, and transmit the gate control signals to an inverter coupled to the secondary winding to control an electrical power transfer between the primary winding and the secondary winding. Other embodiments may be disclosed or claimed.

    Abstract: A vehicle's electrified powertrain includes a battery pack linked to a traction power inverter module (TPIM) converting DC voltage from the battery pack into AC voltage. A rotary electric machine includes a stator energized by the TPIM's AC voltage, enclosing a rotor core capable of rotation. The rotor core contains slots holding conductive bars and permanent magnets, with conductive bars positioned closer to the rotor core's center. The conductive bars and permanent magnets are separated by gaps within each slot. An annular end ring assembly is present at one end of the rotor core, featuring terminal conductors connected to subsets of conductive bars and a secondary coil of a rotary transformer. When the stator is energized, the rotor shaft, connected to the rotor, rotates. The electric machine powers a transmission, which is coupled to the rotor shaft.

In one embodiment, the techniques involve determining a first torque ripple at a torque output of a target electrical machine, upon determining that the first torque ripple exceeds a threshold, reproducing the torque output based on a pair of gamma control sets, determining a second torque ripple at the reproduced torque output, upon determining that the second torque ripple falls below the threshold, generating qualified gamma controls based on the gamma control sets, and supplying the qualified gamma controls to the target electrical machine.
