Abstract:
A fiber optic polarimetric strain sensor and associated data acquisition system capable of all-optical measurements of physical parameters, such as structural strain, gas and liquid pressure, acceleration and vibration, gas and liquid flow rate, and force without fire and explosion hazards associated with conventional strain gage technologies, such as resistance foil strain gages. The polarimetric strain sensor houses a sensitive element—a length of single mode optic fiber—changing polarization of a single-mode optical signal running in the fiber under some mechanical affects, specifically twisting and radial compressing. A linearly-polarized light passes the sensor, which causes polarization deviation of the light, particularly, polarization plane rotation under mentioned above twisting or compressive stresses applied to a sensitive element of the sensor. A multi-channel time division multiplexing data acquisition system that includes polarization analyzer indicates the polarization state deviation caused by the strain, so allow measuring the parameters. The invention may be embodied for measurements of any phenomenon that can be transformed in stress on an optical fiber.
Abstract:
The RF system for preventing hunting accidents comprising RF interrogator mounted on the firearm or hunter's hat and RF transponder attached to hunter's hat, wherein directional pattern of antennas of the hat-mounted interrogator is directed along the line of view of the hunter so matching with sightline of hunter's rifle; and RF transponder, which, to cover directional pattern of 360 arc degrees in azimuth, contains a number of RF transceiver evenly attached to the hunter's hat in horizontal plane and connected to the single electronic unit. The system provides alert information about “friendly targets” that could be under fire, such as other hunters or persons equipped with said transponder; and if they are, the system develops alert signal: “Do not shoot”.
Abstract:
Two-coordinate AO laser scanner for 355 and 266-nm UV wavebands utilizing AO cells with specially shaped TeO2 and KDP AO crystals, and equipped with LiNbO3 pulse-fed transducers of special configuration that allows enlarging scanning angle. This technology is utilized in computer-controlled UV laser analyzer of micro-objects, which performs florescent and reflected light analysis of any chosen micro-spot of a sample, and UV laser micro-machining unit that can process a sample with simultaneous control of the operation by built-in CCD camera. The technical solution utilized in the analyzer and micro-machining unit allows precisely matching coordinates of the processed sample and CCD matrix.

Simplified and insensitive to ambient condition fiber-optic gage and associated multi-channel data collecting system capable of all-optical measurements of a physical phenomenon, such as gas and liquid pressure, temperature, structural movement and force without fire and explosion hazards associated with conventional strain gage technologies, such as resistance foil strain gages. The gage houses a sensitive element—a length of single-mode optic fiber and a bending device converting the measured phenomenon into specific bending of the optic fiber. Here, amplitude of a single-mode light passing the gage experiences variation under this specific mechanical bending applied to the sensitive element of the gage. A multi-channel time-division multiplexing data collecting system that includes another object of this invention—a single-mode fiber-optic switch. The invention may be embodied to measure any phenomenon that can be converted into the bending of a single-mode optical fiber.
Abstract:
An optical switch for coupling a trunk optic fiber to a selected branch optic fiber is disclosed. The switch includes one or two optically active elements which are capable of being configured to have a different diffraction angle. The elements are configured so that an optical signal emitted from the trunk fiber is directed into the selected branch fiber. The switch may also operate in reverse to couple a signal from the branch fiber into the trunk fiber.

The RF system for preventing hunting accidents comprising RF interrogator mounted on the firearm and RF transponder attached to hunter's coat, wherein sharp-diagram K-band RF channel of the interrogator, which is directed along the sightline of hunter's rifle, provides alert information about “friendly targets” that could be under fire, such as other hunters or persons and animals equipped with said transponder; and if they are, the system develops alert signal: “Do not shoot”. Also, the system is optionally equipped with a trigger lock automatically preventing friendly fire.
