摘要: Certain aspects and embodiments of the present invention are directed to a semi-autonomous insert valve. The semi-autonomous insert valve includes a body, a closure mechanism coupled to the body, an autonomous actuation mechanism coupled to the body, and a control system disposed in the body. The body engages an inner wall of a subsurface safety valve and causes a subsurface safety valve closure mechanism to open, allowing fluid to flow toward the surface of the wellbore. The closure mechanism selectively allows fluid to flow toward the surface of the wellbore. The autonomous actuation mechanism actuates the closure mechanism independently from a subsurface safety valve actuation mechanism that actuates the subsurface safety valve closure mechanism. The control sub-system includes one or more transceiving devices that can wirelessly communicate signals. The control sub-system closes the closure mechanism in response to losing signal communication between the transceiving devices and a signal source.

摘要: An actuator of a downhole tool used in oil and gas exploration and production operations is operable to actuate a first implement in a first direction. A biasing device of the downhole tool is operable to actuate the first implement in a second direction, opposite the first direction. A dampener of the downhole tool is operable to slow an actuation speed of the first implement in the first direction, the second direction, or both. Actuating the first implement in the first direction also actuates a second implement of a flow control device (“FCD”) of the downhole tool, to which the first implement is connected, in the first direction, placing the FCD in a first (e.g., open) configuration. Actuating the first implement in the second direction also actuates the second implement of the FCD in the second direction, placing the FCD in a second (e.g., closed) configuration.

摘要: A linear electromechanical actuator with a failsafe design may be used with a downhole flow control system. In one example, a subsurface safety valve for controlling flow of production fluids includes a valve closure element moveable between an open position and a closed position in response to a linear movement of an actuating member. A biasing member biases the valve closure element to the closed position. A power section with an electrically-powered motor drives a rotation. A drive section coupled to the power section converts the rotation of the motor to the linear movement of the actuating member to at least open the subsurface safety valve. A clutch selectively decouples the power section from the drive section in response to a power loss.

摘要: Wellbore systems containing a hydraulically regulated primary safety valve may have their hydraulic regulation transferred to an insert safety valve disposed in a nipple. Such wellbore systems may comprise: a tubing string comprising a nipple and a primary safety valve, the primary safety valve being disposed in the tubing string below the nipple; and a control line and a balance line in hydraulic communication with the primary safety valve and in latent hydraulic communication with one or more switching mechanisms in the nipple. The one or more switching mechanisms in the nipple are actuatable to shut off hydraulic communication of the control line and the balance line below the nipple and to redirect, via one or more latent hydraulic lines, the hydraulic communication of the control line and the balance line to an insert safety valve positioned in a bore of the nipple.

One disclosed safety valve includes a housing having a piston bore defined therein and configured to receive hydraulic fluid pressure, the piston bore providing a tapered portion having a first end and a second end, wherein a cross-sectional diameter of the tapered portion progressively increases from the first end to the second end, and a piston assembly movably arranged within the piston bore and comprising a piston rod that extends longitudinally within at least a portion of the piston bore and an expanding piston coupled to the piston rod, wherein the expanding piston is configured to move between a contracted configuration and an expanded configuration to sealingly engage the tapered portion as the piston assembly moves between the first and second ends.

摘要: Surface controlled subsurface control valves for use in wells and methods of controlling the same. In one embodiment, a valve includes a valve body, a bore closure assembly, a mechanical linkage, a drive assembly, and a control assembly. The valve body defines a bore for fluid to flow through when the bore closure assembly is in an open position. When the bore closure assembly is in its closed position, the bore closure assembly prevents fluid from flowing through the bore. The mechanical linkage is operatively connected to the bore closure assembly and to the drive assembly. The primary control assembly determines a force to apply to the mechanical linkage based on a present operating condition of the valve and causes the drive assembly to apply the determined force to the mechanical linkage. As a result, the mechanical linkage drives the bore closure assembly.
