Pyrimidine derivatives having excellent herbicidal activities for crop plants and selectivity between crop plants and weeds, are presented. Pyrimidine derivatives represented by the following formula (I): wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a haloalkyl group or the like; R2 is an alkyl group, a phenyl group which may be substituted, or the like; R3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkynyl group or the like; R7 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group or the like; R8 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like, W is a —C(═Q) Z— group or a —SO2— group; Q is O or S; Z is O, S, a —C(R4)R5—, a —NR6 group or the like; each of R4 and R5 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or the like; R6 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; and Ar is a phenyl group which may be substituted, a pyridyl group which may be substituted, or the like, and herbicides containing such pyrimidine derivatives as active ingredients.

A tilt type steering apparatus makes the amount of downward protrusion of the front end position of a rear steering column small to prevent interference with knees and prevents the rear steering column from becoming longer than necessary. A first lateral shaft connects a front steering column to a rear steering column. A second lateral shaft, provided under the rear steering column, is rockable about the first lateral shaft. An engagement member is pivotally supported by the second lateral shaft, and displacement side meshing teeth are formed on an upper edge of a front end portion of the engagement member. Fixed side meshing teeth are formed on a lower surface of a restraining member fixed to a lower surface of a support bracket. The displacement and fixed side meshing teeth are engaged and disengaged with each other by a rocking movement of a tilt lever.

In this electric driving device, a shift shaft 2 effects a selecting operation by its displacement in the axial direction and a shifting operation by its rotation. The displacement of the shift shaft 2 in the axial direction is effected by rocking and displacing a rocking arm 18 by means of a first actuator 13 or 113. Rotation of the shift shaft 2 is effected by pushing and/or pulling a rocking arm 20 by means of a second actuator 21. This driving arm 20 is fixedly disposed on the outer peripheral surface of a spline tube 5 which is brought into spline-engagement with the shift shaft 2.

A housing fixed to the fore end portion of the steering column is supported on a vehicle body by an energy absorbing member. During a secondary collision, the energy absorbing member permits the forward displacement of the steering shaft and steering column while being plastically deformed. When the distance between a first and a second universal joint is shortened with the displacement, the full length of a transmission shaft is shortened.

A collapsible steering column apparatus comprises a steering column capable of receiving, a steering shaft having one end to which a steering wheel is fixed; and an energy absorbing member composed of a plastically deformable material and having its front end joined to a partial outer peripheral surface of the steering column and its rear end joined to a portion fixed to a vehicle body. The energy absorbing member is formed by punching out a sheet of metal plate to achieve a laterally undulating configuration with the extent of the undulations laterally of the energy absorbing member varying along its length. When applying an impulsive force to thrust the steering column forward due to a secondary shock in a collision, the energy absorbing member permits a forward displacement of the steering column while being plastically deformed in such a direction as to extend the undulations thereof.
