摘要： An ink jet recording apparatus and method for forming an image including a text region and a halftone region. The text region contains at least a part of a character and/or a thin line thinner than a predetermined thickness, and the halftone region contains a dot image on a recording medium. An image is formed by ejecting ink from recording heads in response to an input signal. The apparatus or method identifies the text region and the halftone region of an image on the basis of the input signal, expels black ink onto a recording area on the recording medium so as to form at least a part of the text region in a first scanning of the recording heads, expels a plurality of inks including the black ink onto the recording area so as to form at least a part of the text and the halftone regions in a second scanning, and repeating the first scanning and the second scanning on the next recording area after incrementing the recording medium.

摘要： An ink jet recording apparatus has a recording head provided with at least one discharge opening from which ink is discharged, a recovery execution device for clearing a predetermined amount of ink from the discharge opening to prevent any discharge failure of the recording head, and a waste ink receiving device for receiving the waste ink cleared from the discharge opening. The apparatus further has a recovery control section which includes a counter for counting the cumulative number of times that ink has been cleared by the recovery execution device, a memory for storing the cumulative number of times that the recovery operation has been counted by the counter, a comparator for comparing, before execution of the next ink clearing recovery operation, the stored cumulative number of times the recovery operation has been performed with a predetermined upper limit data indicative of the upper limit on the number of times the ink clearing operation can be performed chosen with respect to the capacity of the waste ink receiving device, and a controller for producing, when the comparison shows that the cumulative number of times the ink clearing operation has been performed exceeds the upper limit data, a changing signal for informing a user that the waste ink receiving device needs to be changed.

摘要： A container for containing printing liquid for supplying to an ink jet head for an ink jet recording apparatus. The container includes a first chamber containing negative pressure producing material and having an air vent communicating with ambient air and a supply port for supplying printing liquid to the ink jet head. The container also includes a second chamber communicating with the first chamber via a communication port and providing a printing liquid reservoir for the first chamber. The capillary force provided by the negative pressure producing material adjacent a wall extending from the communication port and decreasing in a direction perpendicular to and towards the wall at least adjacent a part of the communication port which is uppermost in use of the container.

摘要： An ink jet recording apparatus comprises a detachably mountable ink jet cartridge including an ink jet recording head for ejecting ink into a recording medium and an ink supply source containing ink for supply to the recording apparatus, which ink supply source has electrodes for passing an electric current through the ink in said ink supply source. A resistance-determining circuit determines a reference resistance between the electrodes by applying an electric current thereto when the ink jet cartridge is mounted to the apparatus and determines a test resistance between the electrodes by applying the same electric current thereto after a predetermined amount of recording. The reference resistance is used to calculate a threshold resistance, which is stored for comparison to the test resistance to judge whether or not the amount of ink in the ink supply source has dropped to a level unsuitable for recording.

The container includes first and second chambers, with the first chamber containing negative pressure producing material and having an air vent communicating with ambient air and a supply port for supplying printing liquid to the ink jet head. 摘要： A recording scan is performed through a relative reciprocation of color recording heads on a recording material. The recording heads can record with higher recording density than that of input image date. A plurality of pixels (2.times.2)are formed for each pixel of input image data. A mixed color image is recorded by multiple scans of the recording heads, in such a manner that pixels thereof (2.times.2) are not subjected to superposition of ink of two colors or more during a scan of the recording heads. Thus, it is possible to prevent an occurrence of variations in mixed color, and to record a high quality color image without increasing a recording time. Further, an amount of ink of one color may be reduced when recording a second one of the scans.
