Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed to provide automatic power control for a driver circuit. Embodiments disclosed herein enable a driver circuit to automatically decrease the gain of amplified input signals when output power exceeds a threshold. Further, embodiments disclosed herein enable a driver circuit to automatically increase the gain of amplified input signals when battery supply voltage drops to avoid unwanted output signal distortion. By using reference signals for battery power and amplified signal input, the amplifiers of the driver circuit can be automatically adjusted until an equilibrium is reached.

Abstract:
Disclosed is an amplifier designed to substantially reduce an ON/OFF transient. The amplifier comprises a drive block that includes a pre-driver and an output stage. The amplifier also comprises a bypass circuit that is coupled to an output of the pre-driver. The bypass circuit of the amplifier is selectively activated to reduce the ON/OFF transient. The bypass circuit may comprise an auxiliary output stage that can be coupled to provide selective activation. The amplifier may also be configured to provide multi-point offset compensation. Also disclosed is a related method. The amplifier and the related method may be incorporated into an audio amplifier used in a cellular telephone or other mobile audio device.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for amplifying a tuner input signal are disclosed. One embodiment of the invention is directed to a tuner amplifier system comprising a tuner amplifier input that receives a tuner amplifier input signal and a first amplifier comprising an input and an output. The input of the first amplifier is coupled to the tuner amplifier input. The system further comprises a second amplifier comprising an input and an output, the input of the second amplifier being coupled to the tuner amplifier input, and a switch adapted to couple one of the first amplifier output and the second amplifier output to an output of the tuner amplifier. Another embodiment of the invention is directed to a method of amplifying a tuner input signal. The method comprises acts of detecting a power of the tuner input signal, selecting a tuner amplifier to amplify the tuner input signal based on the power of the tuner input signal, and amplifying the tuner input signal using the selected amplifier.
Abstract:
In one aspect, an automatic gain control (AGC) for applying a variable gain to a broadband signal is provided. The AGC comprises a variable gain amplifier adapted to receive the broadband signal as an input, the variable gain amplifier configured to apply a variable gain to the broadband signal based on a value of a gain signal to provide an amplified broadband signal, and a controller to provide the gain signal to the variable gain amplifier, the controller adapted to determine the value of the gain signal based on at least one characteristic of the amplified broadband signal. In a further aspect, the one or more characteristic is a power characteristic of the broadband signal that facilitates control of the broadband signal within a desired power range.
