Abstract: A colored suture includes an elongate woven braid of filaments including one or more ends made of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The suture also includes second and third ends which can be colorable or dyeable before or after incorporation into the elongate woven braid. This invention provides surgeons with improved recognition of suture ends in surgery by construction of a bi-colored co-braid with at least two ends of different color schemes or patterns braided into a UHMWPE construction. One of the colored ends runs continuously from one end of the suture to the other end. The other colored end can be colored only on one half of the end. This provides a suture with two distinguishable ends, while still maintaining a continuous line of color along the length of the suture.

Abstract: A fire resistant barrier and system for dynamic building expansion joints comprising a plurality of layers of fire resistant material comprising: a first mechanical support layer having a first and second major surface; a second layer having a first and second major surface, wherein the second layer provides protection and mechanical support to the fire barrier; and at least one layer of intumescent sheet material having a first and second major surface; said at least one layer of intumescent material is disposed between said first mechanical support layer and said second layer; and wherein said first mechanical support layer, said second layer and said at least one layer of intumescent material are locally bonded together over only a portion of their width substantially continuously along the length of the layers of said fire resistant material. The fire barrier is secured to concrete building members with retainer angle brackets and does not require the use of conventional caulking materials to effect a tight seal between the building structure and the fire barrier.

Abstract: A fire resistant gasket for architectural joints comprises an intumescent material mat having a first major surface and a second major surface, wherein at least one of said first and second major surfaces has coated thereon an adhesive. A fire barrier is provided comprising: at least one fire resistant intumescent gasket material having a first major surface and a second major surface, wherein at least one of said first and second major surfaces has coated thereon an adhesive, and at least one fire resistant material barrier layer bonded to a portion of one of said first and second major surface, preferably adhered to a portion of said adhesive coated gasket surface. A process for installing a building joint fire barrier comprises providing at least one fire resistant intumescent gasket material having a first major surface and a second major surface, wherein at least one of said first and second major surfaces has coated thereon an adhesive, adhering the gasket material to at least one of a building member and a fire resistant material barrier layer, and affixing the fire resistant material barrier layer to the building member with the gasket material interposed therebetween.

Abstract: A method for preparing a preconditioned dry electrographic developer comprising the steps of: a) intimately mixing together an unconsolidated mass of carrier particles, and an unconsolidated mass of resin based toner particles containing charge control agent in greater concentration than desired in the final developer, the concentration of said toner in the resulting mixture being less than desired in the final developer, such mixing being for a sufficient length of time and in such a way as to pack any pores of said carrier particles with toner, to scum the surfaces of said carrier particles with charge control agent, and to abrade the surfaces of said carrier particles; and b) introducing into and intimately mixing with said resulting mixture an additional quantity of resin based toner particles containing charge control agent in about the same concentration as desired in the free toner in the final developer, said additional quantity together with the free toner present after step (a) bringing the concentration of free toner in the final mixture up to that desired in the final developer. Mixing desirably is accomplished by tumbling in a rotating container.
