Abstract:
A mounting mat for an exhaust gas treatment device includes first and second major opposite facing surfaces, leading and trailing edges, and opposite lateral edges. At least a portion of one or both of the opposite lateral edges includes an edge protectant that protects the mounting mat against erosion from hot gases encountered during the normal operation of the exhaust gas treatment device. The edge protectant remains flexible after it has been applied to the mounting mat and substantially dried. Also disclosed is an exhaust gas treatment device that includes a housing and a fragile structure mounted within the housing by the mounting mat having the edge protectant deposited thereon. Additionally disclosed are methods of making the mounting mat and an exhaust gas treatment device.
Abstract:
Absorbable coating and absorbable blend of polycaprolactone and crystallization modifier especially suitable for use in the coating of surgical sutures and in the controlled release of chemical or pharmaceutical agents.
Abstract:
A high strength ceramic fiber board having a green strength of at least 300 psi and a green density of less than about 22 lb/ft.sup.3 ; and having a composition comprising 65-97.5% wt. ceramic fiber, 1-10% wt. PVA fiber, 0.5-10% wt. cationic starch, 0-25% wt. clay filler and 1.0-15% wt. colloidal silica.
Abstract:
An impact target for a fluid energy mill comprises a plurality of impact plates arranged in series in spaced relationship alone and generally perpendicular to the axis of a discharge conduit. All but one of the plates has an open area in the central portion thereof and an impact area surrounding the open area. The size of the open area diminishes with the distance of the plate from the discharge conduit.

Abstract:
A refractory glass fiber having a use temperature of greater than 1000.degree. C., up to at least 1260.degree. C., having an after service mechanical integrity comparable to conventional refractory ceramic fiber and which is non-durable in physiological fluids, consisting essentially of the product of silica, magnesia and optionally zirconia, is produced from a melt, optionally containing a viscosity modifier.
Abstract:
The rate of absorption of polycaprolactone in absorbable coating and blends is increased by blending with a crystallization modifier. The absorbable blend is suitable for use in the coating of surgical sutures and in the controlled release of chemical or pharmaceutical agents.

Abstract:
A colored suture includes an elongate woven braid of filaments including one or more ends made of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The suture also includes second and third ends which can be colorable or dyeable before or after incorporation into the elongate woven braid. This invention provides surgeons with improved recognition of suture ends in surgery by construction of a bi-colored co-braid with at least two ends of different color schemes or patterns braided into a UHMWPE construction. One of the colored ends runs continuously from one end of the suture to the other end. The other colored end can be colored only on one half of the end. This provides a suture with two distinguishable ends, while still maintaining a continuous line of color along the length of the suture.
Abstract:
The present invention provides, in some embodiments, a medical securement device such as sutures, yarns, meshes, filaments, tapes, knits, and composite braids made from fiber materials like UHMWPE which are coated in whole or in part with a colored coating solution. This invention provides surgeons with improved recognition of suture ends in surgery by construction of sutures with ends having different colors. Additionally, the invention provides surgeons with a means for color coding or marking of medical devices for proper recognition of various devices used in surgery for particular tasks and surgical procedures.
