摘要: There is provided an apparatus for splitting closed pistachio nuts in a controlled manner such that the longitudinal sutures of the nuts will be cracked open. The apparatus includes a cylindrical housing wih a mandrel mounted for rotation therein to provide an annulus into which nuts can be introduced. According to various features of the apparatus, the pistachio nuts are rotated, oriented and then split along their sutures in the annulus and subsequently discharged through an opening in the housing. There is also provided a continuous process of treating closed shell pistachio nuts which includes the step of removing the denser foreign particles from the closed shell nuts by flotation; and a soaking step so that the shells of the unopened pistachio nuts will be saturated with water to provide a degree of shell flexibility such that when pressure is applied to the suture of the shell to effect splitting, the shell will flex rather than crack. The shells are subsequently surface dried and then introduced to a splitting operation of the type carried out by the apparatus previously described.

摘要: A method is described for positioning the variable threshold region of a memory transistor by a predetermined distance from the drain and source regions. The method includes providing openings in the dielectric material over the substrate at the same time or in one mask step for the variable threshold region and the drain and source regions. A mask is positioned over the variable threshold region opening at times the drain and source regions are formed. The variable threshold region is subsequently formed by growing thin oxide and a layer of nitride thereover. Both sides of the variable threshold region have a fixed threshold region between the respective drain and source which is controlled by a common gate electrode. The invention overcomes the problem of providing additional space for alignment tolerances between the variable threshold region and the drain and source regions.

摘要: A memory system utilizing an array of dual gate variable threshold MNOS memory transistors is disclosed which may be operated such that a single MNOS transistor is used to store each bit of digital information or in a second mode which utilizes two MNOS transistors for each bit stored. The threshold of the transistor interrogated is used to determine the state of a flip-flop comprising a pair of cross-coupled MNOS transistors. A particular transistor of the array is interrogated by coupling appropriate "row select" and "column select" signals to the row and column select terminals. Transistors comprising the first and second columns have their source terminals connected in common and to the drain terminal of the first transistor of the cross-coupled pair. Similarly for, the third and fourth columns. First and second reference transistors also have their source terminals respectively coupled to the drain terminals of the first and second transistors comprising said cross-coupled pair. In either mode, the cross-coupled pair is utilized as the sensing circuit for determining the threshold state of the MNOS memory transistor interrogated. The circuitry coupled to the drains of each transistor comprising the cross-coupled pair is identical resulting in a symmetrical circuit.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention include devices for reliably indicating when the water level in a toilet tank rises to the top of the overflow tube. Indicators use the presence of water in the overflow to provide for visual, olfactory and/or auditory indication of the malfunction. Features of the invention provide for a safe, inexpensive and reliable device for detecting toilet malfunction. Indicators are housed in a device that is positioned to intercept overflow water passing from the toilet tank to the toilet bowl. The presence of water in the device housing is used to release indicators into the toilet bowl water or into the air. Improvements are provided that eliminate false positive indications and prevent inadvertent damage to the toilet.

摘要: A multi-modal multi-lingual mobile device that facilitates intelligently automating an action. The device can automatically synchronize a user schedule based upon a user state, intention, preference and/or limitation. The device can employ sensors to automatically detect criteria by which to automatically implement an action. Moreover, the system can interrogate a user thus converging upon a user intention and/or preference. An analyzer component can intelligently evaluate the compiled criterion in order to automatically perform an action. The multi-modal multi-lingual mobile device can automatically facilitate identification of an individual. Other actions that are automatically performed can include modifying personal information manager data, translating languages into a language comprehendible to a user, etc. Implementation of these actions can be based at least in part upon an environmental factor, a conversation, a location factor and a temporal factor.

摘要: A system that facilitates managing resources (e.g., functionality, services) based at least in part upon an established context. More particularly, a context determination component can be employed to establish a context by processing sensor inputs or learning/inferring a user action/preference. Once the context is established via context determination component, a power/mode management component can be employed to activate and/or mask resources in accordance with the established context. The power and mode management of the device can extend life of a power source (e.g., battery) and mask functionality in accordance with a user and/or device state.
