Abstract:
The specification describes a lamination method for thin film transistor TFT devices wherein each ply of the laminate is a polymer and each contains a portion of the TFT or the interconnection circuit. The plies are laminated together using a solid adhesive polymer layer on the surface of one or both of the plies. The solid adhesive polymer layer has a low elastic modulus that provides effective encapsulation of the TFT, and laminates the plies without high heat or pressure.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for thermosetting pitch fibers in reduced times, at low concentrations of oxygen and at higher temperatures than previously possible. Additionally, the present invention provides a pitch fiber which has an oxygen diffusion rate to the center of the fiber which is competitive with the rate of oxidation at the fiber's surface. Further, the present invention provides a high density pitch fiber batt which thermosets without loss of fiber structure.
Abstract:
The specification describes thin film transistor (TFT) devices with source/drain contacts made by a metallo organic deposition (MOD) method wherein a metallo organic compound/metal particulate mixture is deposited to form a base pattern, and the base pattern is then plated with gold. The porous, relatively high resistance base pattern is thereby converted to a corrosion resistant, low resistance contact. The plating covers the sidewalls of the base pattern, thus allowing the final channel length to be less than the minimum design rule used for depositing the base pattern.
Abstract:
An improved process is disclosed for producing a unique metals-containing anisotropic pitch suitable for carbon fiber manufacture. Soluble, aromatic-organometallic compounds are added to a carbonaceous feedstock which is substantially free of mesophase pitch and the resulting composition is heat soaked to produce an isotropic pitch product containing mesogens and soluble, aromatic-organometallic compounds. Next, the pitch product is solvent fractionated to separate mesogens which contain metals from the organometallic compounds. The metals-containing mesogens are heated to a temperature sufficient to cause fusion to produce a metals-containing mesophase pitch. In another method, the carbonaceous feedstock is heat soaked to produce an isotropic pitch product containing mesogens and high molecular weight, soluble, aromatic-organometallic compounds are added to the mesogen containing isotropic pitch product prior to solvent fractionation. Metals-containing carbon fibers produced from the mesophase pitch exhibit enhanced stabilization, tensile strength and modulus properties. Alternatively, the solvent fractionation or separation is conducted under supercritical extraction conditions to produce a metals-containing mesophase pitch. Organometallic compounds may be added to the carbonaceous feedstock either prior to or after the heat soak step.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a process and apparatus for collecting relatively straight blow spun fibers in a two dimensional configuration. The process utilizes a venturi to preclude the kinking and bending of the fibers until the fibers have substantially thermoset. A diffusion chamber allows the fibers to be collected without entangling.
