    摘要: A ball dropping assembly is shown of the type which is connected in a string of pipe for dropping a ball in the pipe string. A main body is mounted on the pipe. The main body has an interior bore which communicates with the interior of the pipe. A cam housing is received within the main body bore and has a ball receiving recess formed in the interior thereof. A ball dropping can is rotatably received within the cam housing. The can has partially cut-away sidewalls which form a camming surface for the ball. A retaining nut engages and seals the cam housing and can within the body whereby rotation of the can with respect to the cam housing houses the camming surface to contact the ball to thereby eject the ball from the ball receiving recess into the interior of the pipe without opening the assembly to the atmosphere.

    摘要: Disclosed is a holder which may be used for mounting equipment, such as sensing apparatus, within an otherwise closed environment, and an extractor tool for inserting and retrieving the holder and attached equipment. In an operating configuration the holder is double-sealed to a landing nipple mounted on the container against communication of high pressure fluid out of the container. With the extractor tool mounted and sealed on the landing nipple also, a placement member within the extractor tool may engage the top of the holder to extract the holder from sealing engagement with the landing nipple. Two independent gear boxes are provided whereby translational and rotational motions may be separately imparted to the placement member. The holder is anchored to the landing nipple by threaded engagement between the landing nipple and a drive screw section of the holder. A separate seal section of the holder is rotated during the insertion procedure until a preselected orientation of the seal section is achieved. With the orientation of the seal section fixed, further insertion of the holder into the landing nipple without rotation of the seal section effects a metal-to-metal seal, in addition to a packing-type seal, between the seal section and the landing nipple.

    摘要: A sealing and gripping element for an expandable downhole tool features a ring supporting a sealing material with radially extending rings into the sealing material during run in. Expansion of the underlying ring brings the sealing material into contact with the surrounding tubular. It also forces the radially extending rings through the sealing material and into contact with the surrounding tubular. As a result the tips of the extending rings are blunted to create metal to metal seals on the surrounding tubular. Hardened inserts are also located within the sealing material for run in. Upon expansion of the underlying base ring, the inserts break through the sealing material and penetrate the surrounding tubular to enhance grip when high differential pressures are encountered.

    摘要: A device and system for improving efficiency of subterranean cutting elements uses a controlled oscillation super imposed on steady drill bit rotation to maintain a selected rock fracture level. In one aspect, a selected oscillation is applied to the cutting element so that at least some of the stress energy stored in an earthen formation is maintained after fracture of the rock is initiated. Thus, this maintained stress energy can thereafter be used for further crack propagation. In one embodiment, an oscillation device positioned adjacent to the drill bit provides the oscillation. A control unit can be used to operate the oscillation device at a selected oscillation. In one arrangement, the control unit performs a frequency sweep to determine an oscillation that optimizes the cutting action of the drill bit and configures the oscillation device accordingly. One or more sensors connected to the control unit measure parameters used in this determination.

Applied pressure sets the anchor when the swage is properly positioned. The force magnification tool strokes the swage through the collapsed section. The anchor can be released and weight set down on the swage to permit multiple stroking to get through the collapsed area. The swage diameter can be varied.

    摘要: A liner hanger assembly has a slip actuation system which is locked for run-in. A piston assembly bolts onto the mandrel in a sealable manner to actuate a mechanical lock. Upon release of the lock, a plurality of springs actuate a sleeve which is in turn attached to the slips to move them relative to their slip seats. The slip seats are preferably mounted to the mandrel without welding and have longitudinal spaces for mud or cement flow therebetween. Load is distributed from each slip through its slip seat into the mandrel without interaction from an adjacent slip or slip seat. A rupture disk ensures that a predetermined pressure is built up before the piston can actuate to defeat the lock. The lock can come in a variety of configurations. One of which is a sliding sleeve over a dog and another is a yoke over a split ring which, when shifted, allows the split ring to expand, thus unlocking the parts. The slips can also be configured to allow flow of mud or cement behind them, thus reducing the resistance to flow of such materials.
