摘要: The invention provides an apparatus for producing an image of a global surface of an ion source sample plate that is exterior to an ion source. In general terms, the apparatus contains a sample plate for an ion source, an imaging device (e.g., a CCD or CMOS camera) and an illumination device that is configured to produce a light beam that contacts the sample plate surface to define a grazing angle between the light beam and the sample plate surface. The apparatus may be present at a location that is remote to the ion source.

摘要: Described are a system and method for encouraging communication over a network between participants engaged in a learning activity. A communication channel is opened over the network between participants. An objective shared by the participants is presented. Cooperative interaction between the participants is required to complete the objective. Content related to the objective is displayed to each participant of the learning activity. Messages are exchanged in real-time between the participants over the communication channel to allow the participants to progress cooperatively towards completing the objective. Input from one of the participants of the learning activity is received. The input represents an action taken in response to the exchanged messages. The content displayed to the participants is dynamically updated based on the action taken by one of the participants during the learning activity, to depict progress towards the objective.

摘要: An apparatus for modulating the pressure of a fluid such as a gas within the expandable portion of a guide wire catheter. The apparatus features a means for controllably gripping and releasing the open, proximal end of a tubular guide wire, means for introducing a fluid to a desired pressure and volume into the expandable portion of the tubular guide wire through the open end, and, while maintaining the pressure and volume of fluid in the tubular guide wire, a means for sealing the open end of said tubular guide wire to seal the fluid in the tubular guide wire. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus also features a deflation tool for re-opening the sealed tubular guide wire and letting the fluid out. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the pressure and volume of fluid in the tubular guide wire is maintained by utilizing an apparatus to crimp the end of the tubular guide wire, effectively sealing the inside bore of the tubular guide wire. Here, a deflation tool might comprise a means of severing the crimp from the rest of the tubular guide wire, unsealing the bore of the tubular guide wire. Preferably, the crossing profile of the crimped tubular guide wire is no greater than what it was prior to crimping. Using this apparatus, the tubular guide wire can be re-sealed and re-opened as necessary.

摘要: A tamper resistant container that can be readily opened by an elderly person but is difficult for a young child to open comprising a first container for holding toxic substances having a threaded section for engaging a cover and a friction region, a cover having a threaded section for engaging the first container to close and seal toxic substances in the first container, a second container located outside the first container, and including means to permit free rotation of the first container when the cover on the first container is rotated in a direction to unscrew the cover to thereby thwart a young child from opening the tamper resistant container. The second container includes means to prevent rotation of the first container with respect to the second container when the cover is rotated in a direction to unscrew the cover by the user squeezing on specific regions on the outside of the second container so as to prevent rotation of the first container to thereby permit the user to unscrew the cover from the first container.

摘要: A vehicle jacking assembly for selectively raising a wheel of a vehicle for changing a tire includes a plurality of cylinders and an actuator. Each cylinder is configured to be coupled to a frame of a vehicle proximate to a respective wheel of the vehicle. The cylinder comprises a plurality of nested sections so that the cylinder is selectively extensible. The actuator is configured to be coupled to the vehicle and to be operationally coupled to an electrical circuit of the vehicle. The actuator is operationally coupled to the plurality of cylinders so that the actuator is positioned to selectively actuate a respective cylinder to extend the respective cylinder from the frame of the vehicle so that the respective cylinder contacts a surface. The respective cylinder thus is configured to raise an associated wheel of the vehicle from the surface, allowing a tire of the wheel to be changed.

摘要: Techniques for cooperative storage management are described. According to embodiments described herein, a storage server stores backup data for a plurality of client systems, including a first client system and one or more other client systems. The storage server receives a request from the first client system to store new backup data. In response to the request from the first client system, the storage server determines which backup data to delete to make space for the new backup data based, at least in part, on retention duration goals associated with the one or more other client systems. The retention duration goals indicate that the client desires to be able to recover data at least as old as a specified age. The storage server may also determine which backup data to delete based, at least in part, on respective minimum space parameter values for the other client systems.
