Abstract: In general, this disclosure describes method of capturing and storing CO2 on a vehicle. The method includes contacting an vehicle exhaust gas with one or more of a first metal organic framework (MOF) composition sufficient to separate CO2 from the exhaust gas, contacting the separated CO2 with one or more of a second MOF composition sufficient to store the CO2 and wherein the one or more first MOF composition comprises one or more SIFSIX-n-M MOF and wherein M is a metal and n is 2 or 3. Embodiments also describe an apparatus or system for capturing and storing CO2 onboard a vehicle.

Abstract: Embodiments include methods of fabricating a zeolite-like metal-organic framework with an ana-topology (ana-ZMOF) thin film membrane, the methods comprising: (1) modifying a substrate with ana-ZMOF crystal precursors in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone; and (2) intergrowing the ana-ZMOF crystal precursors in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone to form a continuous defect-free thin film of an ana-ZMOF intergrown on the substrate. Embodiments further include methods of separating chemical species comprising contacting an ana-ZMOF thin film membrane with a fluid composition containing one or more chemical species and separating at least one of the chemical species.

Embodiments of the present disclosure describe an alkaline fuel cell comprising a catalyst layer including a SIFSIX-3-Cu MOF composition for sorbing and/or desorbing CO2.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure describe a gas sensor comprising a gas-sensing material including a metal-organic framework with fcu topology and a substrate with a pair of electrodes proximate to the gas-sensing material, wherein the gas sensor is configured to detect toxic gas. Embodiments of the present disclosure further describe a method of detecting gas comprising contacting a gas sensor including a metal-organic framework with fcu topology with a gas/vapour composition including at least one toxic gas, capturing the at least one toxic gas from the fluid composition, and measuring an electrical property to detect a presence of the at least one toxic gas.

Embodiments further include a defect-free metal organic framework membrane comprising MSiF6(pyz)2, wherein M is a metal, wherein the thickness of the membrane is less than 1,000 μm, and wherein the metal organic framework has a growth orientation along the [110] plane relative to a substrate.

Abstract: In general, this disclosure describes techniques for removing trace and low concentration CO2 from fluids using SIFSIX-n-M MOFs, wherein n is at least two and M is a metal. In some embodiments, the metal is zinc or copper. Embodiments include devices comprising SIFSIX-n-M MOFs for removing CO2 from fluids. In particular, embodiments relate to devices and methods utilizing SIFSIX-n-M MOFs for removing CO2 from fluids, wherein CO2 concentration is trace. Methods utilizing SIFSIX-n-M MOFs for removing CO2 from fluids can occur in confined spaces. SIFSIX-n-M MOFs can comprise bidentate organic ligands. In a specific embodiment, SIFSIX-n-M MOFs comprise pyrazine or dipryidilacetylene ligands.
