    摘要: A writer pole for perpendicular recording and a method of manufacturing the same are provided. The writer pole comprises a laminated structure of a first magnetic layer, a second magnetic layer, and a non-magnetic amorphous metal spacer layer disposed between the first and second magnetic layers. Additional ferromagnetic and non-magnetic layers can be added, in an alternating fashion, to produce other laminated structures. Forming a perpendicular writer element includes forming a first magnetic layer, forming a spacer layer on the first magnetic layer, and forming a second magnetic layer on the spacer layer. Forming the perpendicular writer element can further include trimming the writer pole.

    摘要: A magnetic disk has a soft magnetic underlayer comprising a first layer containing NiFe having a concentration of iron that is at least thirty percent and not more than seventy percent; a second layer that adjoins the first layer and contains FeCoN having a concentration of iron that is greater than the second layer's concentration of cobalt, having a concentration of nitrogen that is less than the second layer's concentration of cobalt and less than three percent; and a third layer containing FeCoNi having a concentration of nickel that is less than eight percent, having a concentration of cobalt that is less than the third layer's concentration of iron and greater than the third layer's concentration of nickel, the third layer adjoining only one of the first and second layers. The first and second layers may be repeated to form a magnetically soft high BS laminate for a disk underlayer.

The method and system include providing a first pole, an insulator covering a portion of the first pole and a coil on the first insulator. The coil includes a plurality of turns. The method and system also include providing a second insulator covering the coil, providing a second pole on the second insulator and providing a write gap separating a portion of the first pole from a second portion of the second pole. A first portion of the second pole is coupled with the first pole. In one aspect, the method and system include providing a coil having a plurality of turns with a pitch of no more than 1.2 micrometers. In another aspect, the plurality of turns of the coil is provided using a hard mask layer on a photoresist layer. A portion of the hard mask layer and a portion of the photoresist layer define a plurality of spaces between the pluralities of turns of the coil. In another aspect, the writer is a pedestal defined zero throat writer. In this aspect, the first insulator has a depression therein and the coil is provided on the depression.

The write element includes a magnetic yoke having an electrically conductive coil passing there through. The yoke is constructed of first and second magnetic poles, and performance of the write element is improved by the inclusion of a very thin pedestal of a high magnetic moment material on the first pole in the pole tip region.     摘要: A method and system for fabricating a perpendicular magnetic recording head, and the head so formed, are described. The method includes depositing an underlayer directly on an insulating layer. The underlayer preferably includes at least one of a nonferromagnetic metal, silicon oxide, and silicon nitride. A pole layer, which has a pole removal rate, is provided on the underlayer. The method and system further include forming a perpendicular magnetic recording pole from the pole layer. The perpendicular magnetic recording pole has a top and a bottom that is narrower than the top. The process of forming the perpendicular magnetic recording pole further includes removing a portion of the pole layer such that a pole removal rate for the pole layer is less than or substantially equal to a removal rate of the underlayer during the removing step.

    摘要: Embodiments in accordance with the thin film write head of the present invention have a lower pole structure, an upper pole structure, and a multilayer write gap extending from an air bearing surface between the upper and lower pole structures. In preferred embodiments, the write gap comprises at least two of: (a) a first layer covering a lower pole tip portion of the lower pole structure, (b) a second layer covering turns of a semiconductor winding, or (c) a third layer covering a winding insulation stack. In more preferred embodiments, the write gap is formed of the first, the second, and the third write gap layers. An advantage of a write head with a multilayer write gap is that it allows better control of write gap thickness. As such, loss of write gap thickness can be compensated for by deposition of the second write gap layers, or by deposition of the third write gap layer. Some embodiments have one or more additional advantages in providing increased corrosion prevention, improving the integrity of conductor insulation, and/or improving the top pole magnetic material characteristics.
