The SIS is of a type including: i) an imaging sensor, ii) an imaging system processor, and iii) an imaging system display. The SIS integrity monitor includes a signal emitter assembly for receiving emitter drive signals from an imaging system processor and directing a monitoring image into the active field of view of an imaging sensor for sensed image generation. The generated image is provided to the imaging system processor for analysis. The imaging system processor evaluates the location and modulation state of the generated image to determine if faults exist in the image generation or image display paths.

The first data is analyzed to determine a first position of the aircraft at a predetermined time. Second data is received. The second data is independent of the first data. The second data is analyzed to determine a second position of the aircraft at the predetermined time. The first position of the aircraft and the second position of the aircraft are compared, and the pilot is alerted to a difference between the first position of the aircraft and the second position of the aircraft. The second data may be displayed in a form that is convenient for the pilot to view during landing.

A system for controlling an image displayed on a display unit of an aircraft is shown and described. The system includes an enhanced vision system that detects elements of an approach lighting system for display on the display unit. The system also includes a synthetic vision system that uses a database of navigation information and a determined aircraft location to generate synthetic display elements representing the approach lighting system. Display electronics of the system cause the detected elements from the enhanced vision system to be simultaneously displayed on the display unit within a same scene as the generated synthetic display elements from the synthetic vision system. Advantageously, the simultaneous display allows a pilot viewing the display unit to check for whether information provided by the enhanced vision system matches information provided by the synthetic vision system.

The image data set could be representative of an image in which one or more first location highlighters highlight the location(s) of one or more raised surface features that appear within an egocentric, perspective scene outside the aircraft. The one raised surface feature could be comprised of a raised surface boundary or a raised surface centerline. In an additional embodiment, the image could include one or more second location highlighters highlighting the location(s) of one or more raised surface transition features.

A digital-based control data processing system detects during system operation the occurrence of data processing errors. Data processing accuracy is verified by receiving output information developed from system input information in accordance with a first operational function, computing a derived version of the system input information in accordance with a second operational function, and comparing the derived version of the system input information to the actual system input information to determine whether they differ by a predetermined operational tolerance. This method for verifying processing accuracy is especially advantageous for detecting latent software errors which are unique to a particular computer program. The processing system includes display apparatus which develops from the output information a set of display symbols that convey the information on a monitor screen to the pilot. Assigned to each display symbol is an identifying tag which identifies in real time a display symbol that conveys erroneous information.

The computer provides symbology in response to first sensor input values associated with the head position. The symbology can be conformal with a real world scene. A monitoring system includes a redundant head position sensor for providing second sensor input values associated with head position. The computer monitors for positional accuracy of the symbology by comparing symbology calculated using the first and second input sensor values or by using an inverse function to compare sensor values.
