    Abstract: A control device is provided for an engine in which premixed compression ignition combustion is carried out. The device includes an air amount adjusting mechanism, a variable valve mechanism, an exhaust choke valve, a water temperature sensor, and a processor. The processor controls the variable valve mechanism so that a valve overlap period of a given amount or more is formed in a low-load range where the engine load is low, and controls an injector, the air amount adjusting mechanism, and the exhaust choke valve so that A/F lean mixture gas is formed inside a combustion chamber, and premixed compression ignition combustion of the mixture gas is carried out. During the operation in the low-load range, the combustion controlling module makes an opening of the exhaust choke valve when a temperature parameter is low, smaller than that when the temperature parameter is high.

    Abstract: A control device is provided for an engine in which SPCCI combustion is carried out in which SI combustion of a portion of a mixture gas is performed by jump-spark ignition, and CI combustion of the remaining mixture gas is performed by self-ignition. When the engine is low load and a temperature is less than a given value, an early injection in which fuel is injected during an intake stroke and a retarded injection in which fuel is injected during the second half of a compression stroke are performed, and SPCCI combustion of A/F-lean mixture gas is performed. When the engine is low load and the temperature is greater than or equal to the given value, an injection amount ratio of the early injection is increased and the ratio of the retarded injection is decreased, and SPCCI combustion of A/F-lean mixture gas is performed.

    Abstract: A control system of a compression-ignition engine is provided, which includes an engine configured to cause combustion of mixture gas inside a combustion chamber, a spark plug, and a controller configured to operate the engine. The combustion is performed in a given mode in which, after the spark plug ignites the mixture gas to start combustion, unburned mixture gas combusts by self-ignition. The controller has a heat amount ratio changing module configured to change, according to an engine operating state, a heat amount ratio as an index relating to a ratio of a heat amount generated when the mixture gas combusts by flame propagation with respect to a total heat amount generated when the mixture gas inside the combustion chamber combusts. The controller causes the changing module to increase the heat amount ratio at a high engine speed than at a low engine speed.

    Abstract: A control system for a pre-mixture compression-ignition engine is provided, configured such that in a first combustion mode, the control unit controls the fuel injection valve to have a fuel amount within a mixture gas in an outer circumferential portion of the combustion chamber larger than in the center portion, the swirl generating part to generate a swirl flow in the outer circumferential portion, and the spark plug to ignite the mixture gas in the center portion. In a second combustion mode, the control unit controls the fuel injection valve to start a fuel injection on intake stroke so that the mixture gas is formed in the entire combustion chamber, the swirl generating part so that a swirl flow becomes weaker than in the first combustion mode, and the spark plug to ignite the mixture gas before CTDC.

    Abstract: A combustion chamber structure for an engine is provided. The structure includes a piston formed with a downward dented cavity in a central part of an upper surface thereof, and a cylinder head forming a combustion chamber having a pent-roof shape. The upper surface of the piston has an annular part extending from an outer edge of the cavity to an outer edge of the upper surface, and surrounding the outer edge of the cavity. The annular part is formed with first and second piston upper surface portions. When the piston is at a top dead center, a ratio of a volume of a space formed between the first piston upper surface portion and a bottom surface of the cylinder head with respect to a volume of a space formed between the second piston upper surface portion and the bottom surface becomes below a predetermined value.

    Abstract: A control apparatus for an engine includes an engine, a state quantity setting device, a spark plug, and a controller. The spark plug ignites air-fuel mixture at predetermined ignition timing so that unburned air-fuel mixture combusts by autoignition after start of combustion of the air-fuel mixture by the ignition, and the controller adjusts a heat amount ratio in accordance with an operation state of the engine through change of the ignition timing, the heat amount ratio representing an index associated with a ratio of an amount of heat generated when the air-fuel mixture combusts by flame propagation with respect to a total amount of heat generated when the air-fuel mixture combusts in the combustion chamber.
