Abstract: Described are methods for dealing with phase noise, e.g., common phase error and/or inter-carrier interference, in communication systems, and apparatuses for the same. A method can include at least: transmitting one or more reference signals (in-band signals within a channel); and mapping the reference signals to radio resources in the channel for transmission of the reference signals. An amount of the radio resources may depend on, e.g., information about a modulation and coding scheme used for transmission. An associated method can include at least: receiving one or more reference signals, and mapping the reference signals to radio resources in the channel for reception of the reference signals; receiving information about a modulation and coding scheme to be used, an amount of the radio resources depending on, e.g., information about the modulation and coding scheme used for reception; and using the reference signals to compensate for phase noise.

Abstract: An inter-carrier interference method comprises: receiving one or more OFDM signal comprising plural blocks of OFDM subcarriers of a first type and plural blocks of OFDM subcarriers of a second type, wherein the frequencies of the subcarriers of each block of OFDM subcarriers of the first type are contiguous and wherein the plural blocks of subcarriers of the first type are distributed amongst the plural blocks of subcarriers of the second type; for each of the plural blocks of subcarriers of the first type, estimating inter-carrier interference components; estimating inter-carrier interference components for the subcarriers of the second type using the inter-carrier interference components estimated for the plural blocks of subcarriers of the first type; and compensating for inter-carrier interference in the plural blocks of subcarriers of the second type using the inter-carrier interference components estimated for the sub-carriers of the second type, thereby to generate plural compensated blocks of subcarriers of the second type.

Abstract: This document discloses a solution for reducing peak-to-average power ratio in a radio device. According to an aspect, an apparatus includes circuitry configured for performing: acquiring a block of modulated symbols to be transmitted over a radio interface; transforming the block of modulated symbols from a time domain into a frequency domain for sub-carrier mapping; performing a time-domain peak detection procedure on the block of modulated symbols before said transforming; upon detecting at least one peak in the block of modulated symbols during the time-domain peak detection procedure, computing a peak correction signal for the block of modulated symbols and allocating the peak correction signal to one or more sub-carriers dedicated to the peak correction signal in the sub-carrier mapping; and upon detecting no peak in the block of modulated symbols during the time-domain peak detection procedure, omitting said computing and said allocating.
