An example system includes an elevator car having an inner wall, and an electronic visual display mounted to the inner wall so as to define a gap between the inner wall and the electronic visual display. Further, fluid is configured to flow through the gap to cool the electronic visual display.

Abstract: An illustrative example elevator system includes a hoistway that establishes a vertical pathway. The hoistway has an interior border established by a plurality of stationary boundaries that each have a height aligned with a vertical length of the hoistway. Each of the stationary boundaries has a width generally perpendicular to the height. An elevator car is within the hoistway. At least one vertically extending load bearing assembly includes a plurality of elongated load bearing members extending along a vertical path and facilitating movement or support of the elevator car. At least one hoistway liner assembly is situated in the hoistway. The hoistway liner assembly includes a plurality of bumpers that each have an axis that is generally perpendicular to the vertical length of the hoistway. The axes of at least two of the bumpers are non-parallel. The bumpers collectively establish a protected area sufficient for preventing contact between the load bearing assembly and the interior border of the hoistway if there is lateral movement of any of the load bearing members relative to the vertical path in at least two generally perpendicular directions.

Abstract: An illustrative example embodiment of an elevator cab ventilation device includes a fan module and a ventilation controller that is configured to control operation of the fan module based on an indication of a position of at least one door of the elevator cab. The controller is configured to control the fan module to operate in a first mode to move a first amount of air per unit time when the door is in a first open position. The controller is configured to control the fan module to operate in a second mode to move a second, larger amount of air per unit time when the door is in a second, different open position.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for retrofitting an elevator machine with a thrust bearing, including removing, from a bearing stand, a first cover plate, providing access to an end portion of a motor shaft, securing an extension shaft against the end portion of the motor shaft, securing a thrust bearing housing against or axially offset from the bearing stand, positioning a thrust bearing in the bearing housing, wherein an inner race of the thrust bearing is securely positioned against, and axially fixed to, the extension shaft, and an outer race of the thrust bearing is securely positioned against the bearing housing, and securing a second cover plate to the bearing housing.

Abstract: A method is disclosed of retrofitting an elevator machine with primary and secondary braking, the machine being disposed on a machine support frame in an elevator machine room, and engaging one or more ropes for providing selective movement of an elevator car disposed in an elevator shaft, the machine having a drive sheave including a cylindrical brake drum, and brake components including dual brake arms; the method including: removing the brake components; affixing flanged disc segments about the drum and interlocking the flanged disc segments to form a brake rotor; and mounting respective brake calipers to frame mounts for providing primary and secondary braking to the elevator machine.

Abstract: An illustrative example embodiment of an elevator rope sway damping assembly includes a plurality of sway dampers having a width and a length. An actuator device selectively causes movement of the sway dampers in a direction transverse to the length between a first position where the sway dampers are spaced apart by a first distance and a second, sway-damping position where the sway dampers are spaced apart by a second, shorter distance. The actuator device provides an indication when the sway dampers are in the first position.

Abstract: An illustrative example elevator system includes a hoistway that establishes a vertical pathway. The hoistway has an interior border established by a plurality of stationary boundaries. The interior border defines a first area. An elevator car is within the hoistway and has an exterior border that defines a second area that is smaller than the first area. At least one hoistway liner assembly is situated in the hoistway. The hoistway liner assembly includes a plurality of bumpers that collectively establish a protected area that is smaller than the first area and larger than the second area such that the elevator car can move through the protected area. The protected area prevents contact between the load bearing assembly and the interior border of the hoistway.

Abstract: A damping device for damping movement of a parked car in an elevator system includes a base plate and at least one damping assembly connected to the base plate. The damping assembly includes a flange extending from the base plate, a support member arranged at a distance from the flange, and at least one damping mechanism having a first end connected to the flange and a second end connected to the support member. The at least one damping assembly restricts movement of the support member toward the flange.
