A smoking article having a mouth end and a distal end is provided, including a heat source; an aerosol-forming substrate downstream of the heat source; at least one air inlet downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate; and an airflow pathway extending between the at least one air inlet and the mouth end of the smoking article. The airflow pathway includes a first portion extending longitudinally upstream from the at least one air inlet towards the aerosol-forming substrate, and a second portion extending longitudinally downstream from the first portion to the mouth end of the smoking article.

An electrically operated aerosol-generating system is provided, including a housing; an aerosol-forming substrate; at least one heating element configured to heat the aerosol-forming substrate and to generate an aerosol; a power supply configured to supply power to the at least one heating element; electric circuitry configured to control a supply of power from the power supply to the at least one heating element; a first switch provided on an external surface of the housing; and a mouthpiece including at least one second, touch sensitive, switch, the mouthpiece being deformable from a first configuration to a second configuration, wherein in the first configuration the at least one second switch is not exposed and in the second configuration the at least one second switch is exposed. The circuitry is configured to provide power to the at least one heating element when both the first switch and the second switch are activated.

An aerosol-generating system is provided, including a liquid storage portion including a container configured to hold a liquid aerosol-generating substrate and defining an opening; a heater assembly extending across the opening along a plane transverse to the opening and including at least one electrically operated heating element; and a first channel defining a first flow route, a portion of the first channel being arranged with respect to the plane transverse to the opening such that at least a portion of the first channel is configured to direct air originating from outside the system to impinge against and across a surface portion of the at least one electrically operated heating element. A method for guiding an airflow in an electrically operated aerosol-generating system is also provided.

A smoking article is provided, including a combustible heat source having opposed front and rear faces; an aerosol-forming substrate downstream of the rear face; and a single heat-conducting element overlying a rear portion of the combustible heat source and at least a front portion of the aerosol-forming substrate. The single heat-conducting element includes one or more layers of heat conductive material that are radially separated from the combustible heat source and the aerosol-forming substrate. The combustible heat source is either a blind combustible heat source or a non-blind combustible heat source, and the smoking article further includes a non-combustible substantially air impermeable barrier between the non-blind source and one or more airflow channels extending from the front face to the rear face of the non-blind source. The single heat-conducting element includes an outer layer of heat conductive material that is visible on the exterior of the smoking article.
