Abstract: A leaf imaging system is disclosed which includes a leaf-handling subsystem which includes a first leaf contactor and a second leaf contactor and configured to receive a leaf in therebetween, and an encoder coupled to one of the first or second leaf contactors, the encoder configured to selectively trigger a camera corresponding to motion of the leaf. The leaf imaging system further includes a lightbox in communication with the leaf-handling subsystem and configured to provide light to the leaf as the leaf passes between the first and the second leaf contactors; and a controller in communication with the encoder, the camera, and the lightbox and configured to operate the camera based on output of the encoder.

Abstract: An autonomous system for providing consistent images of leaves of plants is disclosed which includes a mobility unit configured to move from an originating position to a position about a plant in a field, one or more vacuum units coupled to the mobility unit configured to be positioned above one or more leaves of the plant, the one or more vacuum units each having one or more fans coupled to an air inlet having a grate, and configured to elevate the one or more leaves of the plant onto the grate, one or more imaging systems each having one or more cameras configured to obtain images from the one or more leaves of the plant, and a controller configured to control position of the mobility unit and activate the one or more imaging system to thereby obtain images from the one or more leaves of the plant.

Abstract: An autonomous system for providing consistent images of leaves of plants is disclosed which includes a mobility system configured to move from an originating position to a position above a plant in a field, a robotic system coupled to the mobility system, the robotic system includes a manipulator providing a plurality of degrees of freedom, and an imaging system having an imaging chamber and one or more cameras, the imaging system coupled to the manipulator, the manipulator and the imaging system cooperate to position the imaging system about a leaf of a plant such that the manipulator articulates the imaging chamber substantially parallel and in line with the leaf and further moves the imaging system so that the leaf enters the imaging chamber thereby allowing the imaging system to obtain images of the leaf.

Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for providing consistent images of leaves of plants, including articulating a lower case of a housing with respect to an upper case via an imaging chamber articulation mechanism from i) a closed state to ii) an open state, the articulable space forms an imaging chamber which is dark when the imaging chamber articulation mechanism is in the closed state, placing the leaf within the imaging chamber, articulating the imaging chamber articulation mechanism to the closed state, activating one or more light sources, actuating a linear actuator to thereby linearly move a camera from i) an initial position to ii) an end position, obtaining images from the camera, re-actuating the linear actuator to thereby linearly move the camera from the end position to the initial position, re-articulating the lower case to the open state, and removing the leaf.
