Abstract: Techniques are described for conveying identification information in a preamble transmission. A transmission burst may be generated for transmission over a wireless medium. The transmission burst may include the preamble and a body portion. The preamble may include identification information associated with at least one of a transmitting device or a category of data bring transmitted. The transmission burst may then be transmitted over the wireless medium.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for combining different types of reference signals. A wireless communications network may be configured to allow a user equipment (UE) to combine multiple demodulation reference signals (DM-RSs) to support demodulation of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), and/or other downlink transmissions, transmitted from a base station to the UE. The base station may provide explicit signaling that reference signals transmitted in two or more transmission time intervals may be combined, or a determination that reference signals transmitted in two or more transmission time intervals may be combined may be made implicitly based on system configuration and previous transmissions. Based on the explicit signaling and/or implicit determination, a UE may combine reference signals included in each of two or more reference signals for use in demodulation of downlink transmissions.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A first method may include receiving at a user equipment (UE) over an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band an indication of a time window associated with a transmission of a synchronization signal, and monitoring the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band during the time window to receive a synchronization signal from a base station. A second method may include transmitting an indication of a time window associated with a transmission of a synchronization signal; performing a plurality of clear channel assessments (CCAs) on an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band during the time window; and transmitting the synchronization signal over the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band at a transmission time during the time window. The transmission time may be based at least in part on a result of at least one of the CCAs.

Abstract: Resource mapping and coding schemes to handle bursty interference are disclosed that provide for spreading the modulated symbols for one or more transmission code words over more symbols in the time-frequency transmission stream. Certain aspects allow for the modulated symbols to be based on bits from more than one code word. Other aspects also provide for re-mapping code word transmission sequences for re-transmissions based on the number of re-transmissions requested by the receiver. Additional aspects provide for layered coding that uses a lower fixed-size constellation to encode/decode transmissions in a layered manner in order to achieve a larger-size constellation encoding. The layered encoding process allows the transmitter and receiver to use different coding rates for each coding layer. The layered encoding process also allows interference from neighboring cells to be canceled without knowledge of the actual constellation used to code the interfering neighboring signal.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for wireless communication are described. A method may include receiving at a user equipment (UE) a number of allocated interlaces for an uplink transmission over a shared spectrum, each of which may include a plurality of non-contiguous resource blocks (RB) of the shared spectrum. In some cases, the number of allocated interlaces is unsupported by joint interlace precoding hardware of the UE and the allocated interlaces may be partitioned into subsets of interlaces which may be a size supported by the joint interlace precoding hardware. Reference signals may be generated for the RBs of the allocated interlaces according to a reference signal sequence based on an ordering of the RBs for the allocated interlaces within the shared spectrum.

Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus may be a UE. The UE identifies properties associated with reference signals of a received payload. The properties associated with reference signals of the received payload may include a reference signal structure and/or a traffic to pilot ratio. The UE determines a payload structure based on the identified properties. Subsequently, the UE decodes the received payload based on the determined payload structure. The UE may receive mapping information indicating a mapping between possible properties associated with reference signals and possible payload structures. The UE may determine the payload structure further based on the received mapping information. The UE may receive the mapping information through a broadcast or RRC signaling.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for hierarchical communications within a wireless communications system. An eNB and/or a UE may be configured to operate within the wireless communications system which is at least partially defined through a first layer with first layer transmissions having a first subframe type and a second layer with second layer transmissions having a second subframe type. The first subframe type may have a first round trip time (RTT) between transmission and acknowledgment of receipt of the transmission, and the second layer may have a second RTT that is less than the first RTT. Subframes of the first subframe type may be multiplexed with subframes of the second subframe type, such as through time division multiplexing.

Abstract: Techniques for wireless communications over a shared radio frequency spectrum band, may include techniques for transmitting uplink data transmissions using allocated uplink resources. Allocated uplink resources may include an uplink channel comprising a number of allocated interlaces of resource blocks (RBs) for use by a user equipment (UE). An incoming data stream may be processed and data separated into each of the allocated interlaces of RBs for the UE. Such separation may be through demultiplexing the data stream to obtain data for the allocated interlaces of RBs. The demultiplexed data may be mapped onto associated resource elements associated with the allocated interlaces of RBs, and transmitted. Different types of uplink channels, such as a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) and/or a physical random access channel (PRACH) may be allocated to interlaces of RBs in one or more subframes of a transmitted radio frame.

Abstract: Channel state information (CSI) feedback in long term evolution (LTE) and LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) networks including contention-based shared unlicensed spectrum is disclosed in which a user equipment (UE) identifies at least one carrier utilizing a contention based radio frequency spectrum. The UE detects a transmission signal indicative of clear channel assessment (CCA) result information for the carrier and determines whether a reference signal for channel state information measurement is present in a subframe based on the detected transmission signal. The UE would transmit a measurement report based on this presence determination of the reference signal.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device may use a sampling rate that is less than a default sampling rate associated with a wireless carrier. The device may operate in a narrowband portion of a system bandwidth, and the sampling rate may be less than that used by devices monitoring the whole bandwidth. Multiple sampling rates may be used so that a portion of signal processing may be associated with one sampling rate and another portion of the signal processing may be associated with another sampling rate. The size of a cyclic prefix (CP) may be adjusted based on the sampling rate to align subframe timing boundaries for signals of different sampling rates. In some cases, each symbol of a signal may include both a CP and a postfix such that the postfix for each symbol overlaps the prefix of the next symbol.
