Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for wireless communication that may allow a user equipment (UE) to determine its relative position and distances to other UEs more accurately than standard vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications allow. In some implementations, a UE (or other wireless communication device) participating in a positioning operation may transmit and receive positioning signals on an unlicensed radio band, and may transmit and receive non-positioning signals on a V2X channel (or on another suitable channel) of a radio access network (RAN). The positioning signals may include positioning reference signals (PRSs) associated with observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) positioning operations, ranging signals associated with round-trip time (RTT) positioning operations, or other suitable signals from which the position of the UE can be determined.

In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may transmit, to another UE, a positioning request associated with a procedure for determining a position of the UE, wherein the positioning request comprises a first sidelink communication between a first sidelink location management component (S-LMC) of the UE and a second S-LMC of the other UE, wherein the first S-LMC and the second S-LMC comprise sub-functions associated with a vehicle-to-everything protocol layer; receive, from the other UE, a second sidelink communication associated with the procedure for determining the position of the UE; and determine the position of the UE based at least in part on the second sidelink communication. Abstract: An initiator UE may be configured to send one or more units of messages to one or more responder UEs. A unit of message may include a pre-PRS message, a PRS message and a post-PRS message. A responder UE may be configured to send one or more units of messages to the initiator UE. The pre-PRS message and the post-PRS message may be sent or received using a license spectrum. The PRS message may be sent or received using an unlicensed spectrum. The communication between the initiator UE and the responder UE may be initiated by the initiator UE identifying the responder UE from a plurality of UEs based on positioning properties of the responder UE. The positioning properties of the responder UE may include a direction, a velocity, a location confidence or a location of the responder UE, or a combination thereof.

In some aspects, a first wireless communication device may determine that a second wireless communication device is to communicate with a third wireless communication device using one or more beams that pass through a target area. The first wireless communication device may obtain information indicating a first object that is approaching the target area and that has a beam blocking size above a threshold. Abstract: A ranging session between multiple user equipments (UEs) is initiated using an initial message that includes identifiers (IDs) for the initiating UE and each of one or more responder UEs. Each UE in the ranging session independently determines the timing instances of the signaling for each UE in the ranging session based on the UE IDs in the initial message. Signaling information, such as identifiers for the ranging signals, may likewise be independent determined by each UE based on the UE IDs. The order of UE IDs and number of responder UEs provided in the initial message may also be used to determine the timing instances of signaling and signaling information. The UEs, for example, may use a common multivariable deterministic function with the UE IDs as inputs to each separately derive the timing instance for itself and the other UEs in the ranging session.

Abstract: A vehicle-enabled user equipment (VUE) and related techniques are disclosed. In one aspect, the VUE issues a periodic broadcast, or signals a response to a requesting source, identifying its location management capability (LMC). The UE forms a link with a recipient VUE of the broadcast to perform joint localization of the pedestrian UE (PUE). Joint localization by VUE and another VUE may be performed by VUEs and PUEs in the region exchanging ranging signals and ego measurements. The VUE determines a location jointly of the PUE. The location can be determined upon a request, periodically, or in response to a triggered event.

Abstract: Aspects relate to group-based positioning reference signal (PRS) broadcast in a wireless communication network. Wireless communication devices communicating over a sidelink channel in the wireless communication network may be grouped into one or more positioning groups. Within each positioning group, a respective order of the wireless communication devices in the positioning group may be identified. The wireless communication devices in a positioning group may then communicate PRSs therebetween over the sidelink channel based on the order of wireless communication devices in the positioning group.
