    摘要: Systems and methods are described that facilitate generating a background image with a UV-fluorescent watermark for printing on a document. A binary watermark mask is generated to separate the background image into the UV-active and the UV-dull regions. Based on the assigned binary value of the watermark mask, each pixel is assigned a UV-active or UV-dull color using an adaptive halftoning technique, in order to generate a binary UV-active image and a binary UV-dull image. A binary watermarked background image is generated by combining the binary UV-active and UV-dull images, and is printed on a document. The UV-active and UV-dull colors have different UV intensities under UV light, but are indistinguishable under normal lighting conditions. In this manner, the background image is visible when exposed to visible light, and the UV-fluorescent watermark is visible when exposed to UV light.

    摘要: A method for encryption of a digital watermark by intelligent halftoning includes receiving image data that define at least a portion of a document to be printed in terms of at least three halftone images corresponding respectively to three printing colorants, each of the three halftone images comprising a plurality of halftone cells. The image data are modified by phase-shifting some of the halftone cells of at least one of the halftone images relative to the other halftone images to encode a watermark within the portion of the document such that the at least one phase-shifted halftone image includes a phase-shifted region and a non-phase-shifted region. The modified image data are used to print the portion of the document on a substrate that will fluoresce when subjected to UV illumination. The printed portion of the document includes a first printed pattern resulting from the phase-shifted region and a second printed pattern resulting from the non-phase-shifted region. The first and second patterns of the printed portion of the document appear substantially similar when the portion of the document is viewed in visible light, and appear dissimilar when the portion of the document is viewed in UV light such that the watermark encoded in the modified image data is perceptible when the portion of the document is viewed in UV light and is hidden when the portion of the document is viewed in visible light.

The watermark is used to spatially vary the gray level at which a frequency modulation-to-amplitude modulation transition occurs.     摘要: A system and method for halftoning for multi-pass rendering of an image in which different pixel locations are rendered in each pass which reduces the effects of inter-pass mis-registration errors. The method of halftoning includes restricting a substantial majority of the pixels turned on to render a tone to the minimum number of passes required to produce the tone. The halftoning method can include generating a stochastic halftone turn-on sequence and re-ordering the turn-on sequence. The halftoning method can also use error diffusion, adding a zero mean bias signal to either the image input pixels or the threshold values. The halftoning method is applicable to color or black and white rendering.
