摘要： A portable computer includes a base having a heat producing electronic component mounted therein. A heat sink, also referred to as a remote heat exchanger, is positioned in the base adjacent to the heat producing component. A heat pipe has a first end permanently bonded to the heat sink and extends to a second end thermally engaged with the heat producing component. The heat sink and heat pipe assembly is rotatable about an axis of the heat sink so as to move the second end of the heat pipe into and out of thermal engagement with the heat producing component.

摘要： A portable computer including two plastic enclosures has a first hinge body attached to a first one of the enclosures. The first hinge body includes a bore formed therein. A flowable lubricant such as grease is disposed within the bore. A second hinge body is attached to a second one of the enclosures. The second hinge body includes an elongated shaft pivotally mounted within the bore having grooves formed on an outer surface of the shaft. A sealing member such as an O-ring is resiliently compressed between one of the grooves and an inner surface of the bore. A friction member is seated in another one of the grooves and in contact with the inner surface of the bore. The seal member has a coefficient of friction such that friction between the seal member and the bore is negligible with respect to friction between the friction member and the bore. The seal member limits the escape of lubricant and the resulting lubricant-induced stress cracks.

摘要： A computer system operable on a DC voltage is provided. The computer system includes a microprocessor, a system memory coupled to the microprocessor, a bus coupled to the microprocessor, an input device coupled to the bus, and a voltage adapter system for providing a DC voltage to the computer system. The voltage adapter system includes a voltage modifying device adapted for converting an AC voltage to a DC voltage. A first cable assembly is electrically connected to supply the AC voltage from an AC power supply to the voltage modifying device. A second cable assembly is provided for selectively supplying the DC voltage to the system from the voltage modifying device or from a remote DC voltage power supply. The second cable assembly is connectable at a first end to the system and connectable at a second end to the voltage modifying device and to the remote DC voltage power supply.

摘要： A portable computer system includes an illuminated keyboard. The computer system has an enclosure including a base and a cover pivotally attached to the base. The keyboard subassembly is mounted in the base. The keyboard subassembly includes a plurality of key mechanisms mounted on a first side thereof. A light panel having a plurality of openings formed therethrough in a pattern generally corresponding to the plurality of key mechanisms is provided. The light panel is mounted adjacent the first side of the keyboard subassembly with each one of the key mechanisms extending through a respective opening in the light panel. A key cap is mounted on each one of the key mechanisms. In one embodiment, each key cap includes a body formed of a non-opaque material having an opaque character indicia portion formed thereon. Light is transmitted through body such that the character indicia portion may be viewed in low light conditions. The key cap may include a light diffuser to enhance the projection of light from the light panel to the character indicia portion.

The base portion includes a module bay formed therein and also includes an internal module bay connector. A modular AC adapter is removably mounted in the module bay. The adapter is provided with a stationary connector for engagement with the internal module bay connector. A storage compartment is provided in the adapter. A first movable connector assembly includes a connection to the adapter positioned in the storage compartment. A second movable connector assembly is provided for connection to the adapter in the storage compartment. The adapter can be inserted into the module bay and interconnected with the computer. An AC connector can be stored in the adapter for carrying or extended for connection to an AC power source. Alternately, the adapter can be used externally of the computer so that a DC connector of the adapter is engaged with the computer and an AC connector of the adapter is engaged with the AC power source.

The expandable diameter stylus may comprise an elongated body and a writing surface disposed on an end of the elongated body. In certain embodiments the variable diameter grip may have a first diameter when the expandable diameter stylus is positioned within a stylus garage of a portable computing system. The variable diameter grip may have a second diameter, larger than the first diameter, when the stylus is removed from the stylus garage for use as an input device.

摘要： An information handling system lock and carrying strap provides a carrying mode to transport the portable computer and a security mode to secure the portable computer to a fixed object. A cable has attachment devices coupled to each end and operable to couple to a portable computer so that the cable acts as a carrying strap. The cable further secures the information handling system to a fixed device to prevent theft by attaching one cable end to the information handling system and the other end to a fixed object. In one embodiment, the attachment device include a secured unlocked position to allow convenient use as a carrying strap and a secured locked position to allow locking of the device with a key.

The opening has contoured edges adjacent the first and second ends of the cavity. A recessed portion is adjacent the opening in the first wall and the recessed portion extends at least partially between the first and second ends of the cavity.
