    摘要: A biocatalytic method for preparing para-hydroxystyrene from para-hydroxycinnamic acid is described. The method uses an enzyme source having para-hydroxycinnamic acid decarboxylase activity to catalyze the decarboxylation of para-hydroxycinnamic acid in a biphasic reaction medium to produce para-hydroxystyrene, which is extracted into the organic phase of the biphasic reaction medium. The method results in a high yield of para-hydroxystyrene due to the decreased exposure of the enzyme source to the inhibitory product. The product is readily recovered from the extractant, or may be chemically derivatized directly in the extractant before recovery.

The invention discloses a process for withdrawing an aliquot of broth from a biofermentation vessel during at least a portion of the biofermentation, removing biocatalyst and water, chromatographically separating biofermentation products from the withdrawn broth using water as an eluent, and returning the remaining components of the broth back to the biofermentation vessel. Process chromatography permits highly selective separation of the target molecule, preventing feedback inhibition of the biofermentation.

Preferred multifunctional aromatic compounds include para-hydroxycinnamic acid (pHCA), cinnamic acid (CA), and para-hydroxystyrene (pHS). The multifunctional aromatic compounds may be produced in a biphasic growth medium comprising a fermentation medium having a specified volume of an extractant. The multifunctional aromatic compounds are extracted into the extractant and recovered by standard means.

    摘要: In a color ink jet printing system, an image superpixel (84, 86, 88) consists of a 2 by 2 array of cells (1-4), each cell corresponding to a pixel area on the substrate (80). Each pixel (55) of graphics data is processed to form a 2 by 2 array of bit image data (40), for printing a corresponding superpixel image (68). A superpixel configuration (86), indicating cell location and color of drops of ink for forming a superpixel image, is defined for each desired image color. Superpixel configurations control printing so that drops of ink (Y,M,C) are deposited only an a diagonally adjacent pair of cells (1,4), with no more than two drops of ink per cell, and no more than three drops of ink per superpixel. This superpixel strategy provides for printed images (62,64) perceivable as having the desired image color and having good color saturation, while minimizing bleed across color field boundaries (66).
