Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for operating magnetic particles in a device in which gel-like medium layer and liquid layer are alternately arranged inside the hollow tube and, first liquid layer and second liquid layer are separated by gel-like medium layer, and magnetic solid with large particle size exists in the first liquid layer rather than magnetic particles and the said magnetic particles. The method of the present invention comprises the first step of moving the magnetic particles and the magnetic solid in the first liquid layer to the gel-like medium layer, the second step of moving the magnetic particles and the magnetic solid moved into the gel-like medium layer into the second liquid layer, and the third step of inverting the movement of the magnetic particles and the magnetic solid moved into the second liquid layer into the gel-like medium layer, by operating a magnetic field.

Abstract: In a magnetic particle operation device 1, a plurality of liquid layers 11 and a plurality of gel-like medium layers are alternately arranged. Magnetic particles 13 are introduced into the uppermost liquid layer 11 of the magnetic particle operation device 1, and a holding magnet 60 is in contact with the outer surface of the bulging portion 21 of the container 20. Therefore, during the storage of the device 1, the magnetic particles 13 in the bulging portion 21 are aggregated and held at a position facing the holding magnet 60 in the sample introduction space by the magnetic force of the holding magnet 60. As a result, during the storage of the device 1, the magnetic particles 13 can be prevented from being brought into contact with the gel-like medium layer 12. Further, when the device 1 is used, the magnetic particles 13 can be dispersed in the liquid layer 11 by moving the holding magnet 60 away from the container 20.

Such manipulations can be achieved by combining rotation of the container and gravity force and magnetic field manipulations.

Abstract: A method for operating magnetic body particles that is for fixing a target substance in a liquid sample to the surface of the magnetic body particles; and a device for operating magnetic body particles that is used for said method. The magnetic body particles are particles to which a target substance can be fixed selectively. In this method, in a state where a liquid sample, the magnetic body particles, and a magnetic solid body that has a larger particle diameter than that of the magnetic body particle are made to coexist in a container, the magnetic body particles are moved together with the magnetic solid body within the liquid sample by operating a magnetic field from outside the container. By this operation, the target substance can be fixed selectively to the surface of the magnetic body particles.
