Abstract: A method includes applying heat to a metal oxide sensing element of a gas sensor, varying the heat applied to the metal oxide sensing element for at least a time interval, and measuring an electrical resistance of the metal oxide sensing element versus variation of the heat for a time interval. The measurement of electrical resistance of the metal oxide sensing element versus variation of the heat applied to the metal oxide sensing element is compared to a set of corresponding reference measurements associated with a plurality of different target gases. A further sensor parameter versus the variation of electrical resistance and variation of the heat applied is measured to obtain a three-dimensional trajectory corresponding to variation of the sensor resistance, the variation of said heat and the variation of the further sensor parameter. This comparing includes comparing the trajectory in three dimensions to a set of reference three-dimensional objects.

Abstract: A method includes: receiving IR radiation with a plurality of IR sensors; producing a plurality of output signals with the plurality of IR sensors based on the received IR radiation, where each of the plurality of output signals is indicative of an intensity of the IR radiation received by a respective IR sensor of the plurality of IR sensors; detecting an IR source based on the plurality of output signals; generating a candidate alarm in response to detecting the IR source; determining whether the detected IR source matches any reference IR source of a set of reference IR sources; when the detected IR source matches one reference IR source of the set of reference IR sources, issuing a user alarm, and when the detected IR source does not match any reference IR source of the set of reference IR sources, canceling the candidate alarm without issuing the user alarm.

Abstract: An in-liquid state of a mobile device is detected by processing color components indicative of an intensity of the ambient light at different wavelengths and a pressure data indicative of ambient pressure. A first plausibility index indicates a likelihood of an air/liquid transition as a function of variations of at least two color components. A second plausibility index indicates a likelihood of an air/liquid transition as a function of variations of said ambient pressure. If both the first and the second plausibility indices indicate a likely air/liquid transition event, an in-liquid state signal is generated.

Abstract: A method for presence detection in an environment to be monitored, includes generating an electric charge signal in a condition of absence of presence in the environment to be monitored. An electric charge signal is generated in an operating condition in which a person may be present in the environment. The two generated signals are processed and the results of the processing are compared. Processing the signals includes representing in a biaxial reference system the value of the charge signal considered and its derivative with respect to time, and identifying a plurality of points in the reference system. By comparing the position of the points acquired during the possible human presence with those of the base shape, a variation indicating the actual human presence may be detected. In this case an alarm signal is generated.

Abstract: A sensor is driven at a first heating power value. The sensor generates a sensing signal that is indicative of a sensed entity. A possible onset of a sensor contamination condition is detected as a function of the sensing signal generated by the sensor. If such detecting fails to indicate onset of a sensor contamination condition, the sensor continues to be driven at the first heating power value. However, if such detecting indicates onset of a sensor contamination condition, a protection mode is activated. In the protection mode, the sensor is driven at a second heating power value for a protection interval, where the second heating power value is lower than the first heating power value. Furthermore, the operation may refrain from supplying power to the sensor for a further protection interval, wherein the further protection interval is longer than the protection interval.

Abstract: A method of operating a gas sensing device is described. The method includes receiving a signal indicative of a value of resistance of a gas sensing element, processing the signal received to compute a value of a gas concentration, performing a comparison of the value of gas concentration to a threshold, and, based on the outcome of a diagnosis procedure, setting the device to an alert signal issue state as a function of the outcome of the comparison. The diagnosis procedure includes computing a set of parameters indicative of the state of the gas sensor circuit, and classifying the gas sensor circuit in one of a first, a second and a third class based on the parameters.
