Abstract:
Various features are provided to improve communication performance and power conservation in a client terminal by relying on the assistance of a proxy device. For instance, rather than reporting channel measurements via a primary communication channel to a network, the client terminal may be adapted to perform (a) channel measurement feedback using out-of-band signaling via the proxy device and/or (b) active synchronization with assistance of a proxy device. In this manner, the client terminal may be able to disable or reduce power consumption over a primary communication interface for the primary communication channel while utilizing a secondary communication interface to communicate with the proxy device.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, devices, and computer program products are described for the reduction of signaling to the core network of a wireless communications system. In one example, a proxy receives a request message transmitted from a mobile device to the core network. The proxy traps the request message to prevent it from being forwarded to the core network. The proxy generates a request accept message in response to the trapped request message, the request accept message spoofing a core network response to the request message. The proxy transmits the request accept message to the mobile device.
Abstract:
3D image data can be modified based on user preference data received from a user. The user preference data may be received at a first device and used to adjust 3D image data generated by the first device for presentation by a display device, or the first device may receive the user preference data and transmit it to a display device such that the display device may adjust the 3D image data based on the user preference data. The 3D image data may be adjusted based on user preference data to support presentation of 3D imagery on the display device in a manner desired by a user. 3D user viewing preferences may include an amount of pop-out effect in images, a stereo baseline of images, a depth range of images, a spatial distribution of images, a degree of depth sharpness in images, or specification of a user's dominant eye.
Abstract:
A scheme is provided for conserving power in client terminals and/or reducing latency in wireless systems by using a proxy device. The client terminal may have a primary communication interface for communications with an access node and a secondary communication interface to communicate with the proxy device. The client terminal may indicate to the access node a short cycle rate for monitoring its signaling/control channel(s). The client terminal may the power off its primary communication interface without informing the access node. Prior to powering off its primary communication interface, the client terminal may assign the proxy device to act as its proxy and monitor the signaling/control channel with the access node. The proxy device monitors the signaling/control channel(s) according to the indicated short cycle rate. Upon detection of a message for the client terminal, the proxy device forwards the message to the client terminal via a secondary communication interface.
Abstract:
Page monitoring in a proxy relationship is optimized through creation of a new page occasion (PO) or paging frame (PF). The new PO/PF includes pages for each client-proxy relationship. Once the new PO/PF is communicated to the proxy, the proxy monitors for the pages of each client by monitoring a single PO/PF. Depending on the embodiment implemented, the network will either continue to also transmit pages during original PO or cease such transmission. On detection of a failed link between the proxy and client, the client may begin to monitor the original pages in such networks, or will begin monitoring using the new PO/PF until the network notifies the client that the state has changed.
Abstract:
Proxy discovery for mobile networks having cooperative multiradio devices is provided through short range discovery and assistance from the network. In some aspects, a dedicated message is sent in response to a request from the client. The dedicated message includes a proxy list. The client uses the proxy list to discover those proxies on the list. Other aspects provide for the proxy list to be included in broadcast messages from the network. Thus, clients receive the broadcast messages and extract the proxy list for discovery purposes. Other aspects provide for the client to detect all of the wireless devices in the area and send a list to the network. The network responds with a sub-list of those proxies that are available to the client. In each such aspect, when the client discovers the available proxies, it transmits a list of the proxy ID of the discovered proxies to the network.
Abstract:
Various arrangements for managing wireless network communication are described. Two cells using different radio access technologies (RATs), such as a 3G cell and a 4G cell, may provide overlapping coverage. A first cell using a first RAT, under certain circumstances, may be permitted to enter a powered down state such that less power is consumed. User equipment may communicate with the cell using the second RAT as the preferred network and only communicate with the cell using the first RAT when a service available through the first RAT but not the second RAT has been requested. Upon a request from the second cell, the first cell may enter a powered up state.
Abstract:
A method for performing symbol timing estimation is disclosed herein. In one approach, the method includes defining a search space in a plurality of estimated magnitudes of channel taps; defining a search window in the search space; and locating a symbol timing estimate index in the search space corresponding to a maximum value of an energy of the plurality of estimated magnitudes of channel taps within the search window. A computer program product having code and a wireless communications apparatus for performing the method are also described herein.
Abstract:
In general, techniques are described for transforming video data in accordance with human visual system feedback metrics. For example, an apparatus comprising a transformation module, a parameter discovery module and a human visual system (HVS) feedback module implements these techniques. The parameter discovery module configures the transformation module to generate three-dimensional (3D) video data in accordance with parameters defining capabilities supported by a 3D display device. The transformation module transforms video data to generate the 3D video data. The HVS feedback module determines, while the transformation module transforms the video data, one or more metrics using an HVS model that reflects a quality of 3D visualization of the generated 3D video data with respect to a human visual system and reconfigures the one or more modules based on the determined one or more metrics to refine the generation of the 3D video data.
