A glass roll includes at least one glass film and one intermediate material one on top of the other in at least two layers onto a winding core. The glass film layers are held in place by the intermediate material layers. The glass roll is produced with a method including provision of a glass film, a winding core and a compressible intermediate material. At least one inside layer of the intermediate material is wound onto the winding core. The glass film and the intermediate material are wound onto the winding core in such a manner that the glass film is wound onto the winding core in alternating layers with the intermediate material. The intermediate material and/or the glass film is wound at a tensile stress acting in a longitudinal direction which causes a compression of the intermediate material and holds the glass film end in place on the glass roll.

The present invention relates to glasses having a composition made up of base glasses. The glasses have a good chemical toughenability in combination with an advantageous coefficient of thermal expansion. Owing to their composition and the production process, the homogeneity of the properties of the glasses at their surface is high compared to the bulk glass. Furthermore, the fragility of the glasses is low, so that they can be processed to produce very thin glass articles.

An apparatus for identifying defects within the volume of a transparent sheet, such as a glass sheet, is provided. The apparatus includes an illumination device that directs incident light onto at least a portion of a surface of the sheet so as to illuminate the sheet, and an image detector onto which the light backscattered from the sheet is directed to image the sheet. The apparatus generates at least two interference images under different capturing conditions in order to perform identification of defects by evaluating the at least two interference images.

A glass, a glass article made of the glass as well as uses and production methods are disclosed. The glass constituents are selected such that excellent scratch resistance and impact strength are provided. The glass has a composition characterized by the following constituent phases: 15-60 mol % reedmergnerite; 20-60 mol % albite; 0-20 mol % nepheline; 0-20 mol % orthoclase; 0-20 mol % parakeldyshite; 0-20 mol % narsarsukite; 0.1-30 mol % disodium zinc silicate; 0-4 mol % diboron trioxide; 0-20 mol % cordierite; and 0-20 mol % danburite. A quotient of a coefficient of thermal expansion of the glass multiplied by 1000 (in ppm/K) and the product of a pH value and a removal rate in alkaline environment (in mg/(dm23h)) according to ISO 695 is at least 8 and the removal rate in alkaline environment according to ISO 695 is at most 115 mg/(dm23h).

A glass is described, a glass article made of the glass as well as uses and production methods.
