摘要: Apparatus for resuscitating a plurality of patients comprising four face mask assemblies each of which is operable to be operatively connected with a patient so as to permit fresh air to be supplied to the lungs of such patient and four bellows assemblies actuated by a cam track rotated either by a suitable clutched electric motor or by hand crank for delivering successive volumes of fresh air under pressure to each face mask assembly at a desired cyclical frequency wherein each cycle includes said fresh air delivery as a minor part thereof. Each face mask assembly has operatively associated therewith (1) a stale air exhaust valve assembly for permitting air expelled from the lungs of each patient during the remaining major part of each cycle associated therewith to be exhausted to atmosphere, (2) a medicament injector for selectively supplying a respiratory medicament dosage into the fresh air delivered to each face mask assembly, and (3) a pressure gauge for indicating the operative pressure adjacent the face mask assembly so as to enable the operator to readily determine a bronchoconstrictive condition of a patient operatively connected with the associated face mask assembly so that the associated selective medicament injector is selected to deliver medicament only during the minor cycle part when the fresh air is delivered.

摘要: A plural dosage automatic injector comprising an elongated tubular housing assembly having side by side first and second medicament injecting assemblies each including a container, a hypodermic needle, a liquid medicament and a plunger within the forward end portion thereof and, first and second stressed spring assemblies in the rearward end portion thereof disposed in operative relation with said first and second medicament injecting assemblies for operating the latter. A manually operable safety device is provided which includes a first safety pin operable (1) when in a safety position with respect to the first spring stressed assembly to prevent actuation and release thereof and (2) when removed from its safety position to permit the actuation and release of the second stressed spring assembly. A mechanical motion transmitting mechanism is provided which is operable to transmit a movement occurring as a result of the actuation and release of the first stressed spring assembly into a secondary actuating movement operable to (1) effect a relative movement between the automatic safety pin and the second stressed spring assembly sufficient to remove the automatic safety pin from its safety position and (2) thereafter actuate and release second stressed spring assembly to operate the second medicament injecting assembly.

摘要: A method of treating a patient with liquid medicament under circumstances where intravenous injection is not practical but the fast response time of an intravenous injection is desirable, including the treatment of individuals undergoing heart attack symptoms with t-PA. The method comprises the steps of injecting the liquid medicament t-PA preferably with a blood absorption enhancing agent such as hydroxylamine hydrochloride into the muscle tissue of the patient, applying to the patient which has received the injection repeated blood flow stimulating cycles, each of which includes a period of electrical stimulus during which the muscle tissue which has received the injection tenses followed by a period of no electrical stimulus during which the muscle tissue which received the injection is allowed to relax inducing enhanced blood flow within the muscle tissue, and continuing the application of the repeated blood flow stimulating cycles until the injected liquid medicament has been sufficiently absorbed into the enhanced blood flow to achieve a desired possible patient response of reperfusion and apparatus for carrying out the method.

摘要: The absorption of a scavenger of oxygen free radicals generated at the time of reperfusion or the absorption of an agent preventing the cytotoxic effects on healthy cells in a mammal. e.g. superoxide dismutase or S-aminotrimethyleneaminoethyl thiophosphate is enhanced by substantially simultaneously administering an absorption enhancing agent therefore, e.g. hydroxylamine or a non-toxic salt thereof. It is also part of the invention to inject WR-2721 intravenously or intramuscularly as a scavenger of oxygen free radicals even in the absence of an absorption enhancing agent.

摘要: A device for initiating reperfusion treatment of a coronary prone individual prior to the establishment of qualified direct contact personal care at a time during the early minutes or hours after the onset of heart attack symptoms and after qualified personnel have participated by telephone in the decision to initiate such treatment. The device comprises an automatic injector assembly including a releasable force applying assembly, a safety normally disposed in a release preventing position movable therefrom into a release permitting position, a container or containers for separately containing a plurality of separate medicament dosages including a first dosage containing a clot selective coronary thrombolytic agent and a separate second dosage containing a cardiac antiarrhythmic agent and one or more hypodermic needles. The automatic injector is operable in response to a predetermined manual actuating procedure including the movement of the safety into its release permitting position for effecting release of the releasable force applying assembly and causing the released force to be applied so as to effect the movement of the hypodermic needle or needles into the muscle tissue of the individual and the flow of the separate medicament dosages outwardly from the container or containers through the hypodermic needle or needles into the muscle tissue of the individual.

摘要: A portable heart monitoring apparatus incorporating unique structural and functional features. Electrodes carried on the apparatus capture electrical signals representing the functioning of a heart beating therewithin and provides sensible output indications corresponding to predetermined characteristics of the electrical signals and, hence, of the detected heartbeat. One of the sensible outputs provided is the selective actuation of either of two logic lights indicating whether the heartbeat is above or below respectively a predetermined beating rate. The unit is automatically turned on by merely holding the instrument in the user's hand and the selective actuation of the various operational modes may be conveniently made by selectively placing one of the hands's digits (such as the thumb) from one touch contact point to another. Part of the operation in the test mode involves the effective testing of the reserve battery power without actually loading the battery. Structurally, the device is convenient to hold in the hand and includes, on one side, a ground plane for establishing electrical contact with the user's hand. The ground plane structure is also formed as an open-sided storage compartment for the electrodes and is surrounded by a wrap-around structure for self-storing of the electrode leads.
