摘要: An inkjet printing apparatus for printing continuous tone images on a receiver in response to a digital image, including a structure defining a plurality of colorant or colorant precursor receiving chambers, and another structure defining at least one mixing chamber for receiving a plurality of microdrops of colorants or colorant precursors from the colorant or colorant precursor receiving chambers to produce a desired colorant. The apparatus further includes a microdrop nozzle for each receiving chamber and in communication with the mixing chamber and a printing nozzle for each mixing chamber for causing a mixed drop to be delivered to the receiver. Further, the ejection of the desired number of microdrops is controlled and in response to the digital image and connected to the receiving chamber and the mixing chamber and for causing the desired number of microdrops to be ejected into the mixing chamber and then ejecting a mixed drop of colorant from the mixing chamber through the printing nozzle to the receiver.

摘要: Printhead container and method. The container comprises an enclosure surrounding a printhead body having an ink channel terminating in a nozzle orifice. The ink channel has ink therein. The enclosure is capable of being pressurized to a predetermined internal pressure. The internal pressure acts on the ink to retain the ink in the channel, so that the ink is prevented from flowing along the channel and through the orifice. A one-way valve is in communication with the interior of the enclosure for ingress of a pressurizing medium into the interior of the enclosure, while avoiding reverse flow through the valve in order to allow sustained pressurization of the enclosure. Moreover, a support frame disposed in the enclosure may be provided, the frame defining a well sized to matingly receive the printhead body for constraining movement of the printhead body during transport of the enclosure.

摘要: Apparatus for scan-stimulating a transparent image-storage phosphor to recover a latent image previously formed therein by, for example, an imagewise exposure to x-radiation. Such apparatus includes a source of stimulating radiation and optical apparatus for causing the stimulating radiation to appear (to the storage phosphor) to diverge from the same position in space as the source (x-ray) used to form the latent image in the phosphor. By scanning the phosphor with stimulating radiation propagating along the same path as that traversed by the imagewise-exposing radiation, the recovered image is significantly sharper than prior art techniques.

摘要: An imaging apparatus capable of suppressing inadvertent ejection of a satellite ink droplet and method of assembling the apparatus. The imaging apparatus comprises a print head transducer including a pair of sidewalls defining a chamber therebetween, the channel having an ink body disposed therein. The transducer is capable of inducing a first pressure wave in the ink body in order to eject an intended ink droplet. A waveform generator is connected to the transducer for supplying a voltage waveform to the transducer, so that the transducer induces pressure waves in the ink body to eject the ink droplet. However, the first pressure wave has a reflected portion formed by the first pressure wave reflecting from the sidewalls. The reflected portion is sufficient to inadvertently eject unintended satellite ink droplets following ejection of the intended ink droplet. To avoid formation of satellite ink droplets, a sensor is in fluid communication with the ink body for sensing the reflected portion. A feedback circuit interconnects the transducer and the sensor for inducing a second pressure wave in the ink body in response to the reflected portion sensed by the sensor. The second pressure wave has an amplitude and phase damping the reflected portion of the first pressure wave in order to the suppress inadvertent ejection of the satellite ink droplets.

摘要: A method and apparatus of the present invention corrects the nonuniformity in the printing density between the printing elements of a thermal print head by first printing across a transparent receiver with each element of the head activated with equal inputs (flat field). The print transmittance values are read from the transparent receiver using, for example, a microdensitometer, and an adjustment factor for each heating element is computed and maintained in storage to be combined with the number of heating pulses assigned to each of the respective heating elements as they perform their normal printing function.

摘要: An image recorded by a photostimulable phosphor image recording medium that is transparent (i.e. substantially non-scattering) to stimulating radiation is read out by scanning the stimulable phosphor with a beam of stimulating radiation of such power and at such a speed effective to completely discharge the photostimulable phosphor in a fraction of the beam spot diameter in the scanning direction, whereby the effective size of the scanning spot is smaller than the beam spot diameter, thereby increasing the resolution of the image signal in the scanning direction.

摘要: Electrophotographic color proof generating apparatus includes a charger station, an exposure station, and a development station. Starting with color half-tone separations of artwork, the apparatus, using a unique method, electronically controls the exposure and potentials at the charger and development stations to generate a proof. The apparatus is designed to generate proofs which match the dot gain or loss and density of press sheets printed by a great variety of commercial presses starting with the same separations as are used to form the proofs. The separations are then modified until the apparatus generates a proof which is an acceptable reproduction of the artwork. The modified separations are then used to generate a press sheet on the commercial press which will be an acceptable reproduction of the artwork.

摘要: An apparatus which develops a latent image recorded on a flexble photoconductive member. Developer material comprising conductive carrier granules and magnetic toner particles is transported into contact with the photoconductive member in two development zones. In the first development zone, the flexible photoconductive belt is deflected to wrap about the developer roller. This optimizes development of the solid areas in the latent image. In the second development zone, the developer roller transports the developer material into contact with the latent image. This development zone optimizes development of lines in the latent image with carrier granules adhering to the photoconductive member being removed therefrom.
