摘要： A method for creating sensory experiences operates by scanning the acoustical signal across the human neural cortex to create the desired sensory perceptions. The acoustic signal is scanned in a predetermined pattern. The pattern is then modified to fill in spaces in the predetermined pattern so that over a short time period, the desired signal is scanned across the intended region of the neural cortex. In one exemplary embodiment, the pattern begins with an array of points on the cortex. Thus, an acoustic signal in an array of points is directed towards the cortex. The acoustic pattern is then shaped to expand in radius about each point. Thus, the acoustic signal scans the visual cortex in an array of expanding circles. Varying the signal at each point along the radius as it expands produces neural firing differences in the neural tissue. When the circles expand to where they begin to touch, the pattern changes to fill in the areas between the original array of points. The new circles are centered about the points between the original stimulation locations, and the acoustic signal contracts about these new centers. The signal continues to contract about the new center points. When the new circles have contracted to an array of points, the process can be repeated from the start or simply reversed. Another method operates by forming concentric circles and expanding and contracting each of the concentric circles to fill in the original spaces between the concentric circles.

The data set has a plurality of dimensions defined by perpendicular axes, and includes a plurality of data points. Each data point has a data characteristic. The method includes the steps of: receiving the data set; selecting a predetermined number of data classes based on a distribution of the data characteristics of the plurality of data points within the data set, the predetermined number of data classes less than the number of data points; forming a data structure based on the predetermined number of data classes; and resolving each of the plurality of data points into one of the predetermined number of data classes using a method, which includes the steps of locating a plurality of region centers within the data set, each region center associated with one of the predetermined number of data classes; representing formation of a plurality of regions within the data set by iteratively expanding a predetermined geometric representation from each region center radially outward, each iteration of expansion of the predetermined geometric representation occurring by an integer unit of measure associated with a data point, the iterative expansion causing adjacent regions to intersect and form region boundaries, the region boundaries permitted to be non-parallel to the perpendicular axes; and after each iteration of expansion, assigning a value to each of the unassigned data points within each region, the assigned value associated with the predetermined data class of a particular region center, the particular region center being the region center associated with the first region to capture the data point during the iterations of expansion. The resolved data points are associated with the data structure, and, using the associated resolved data points, a modified representation of the collected data is generated.

摘要： A digital intercom device consistent with certain embodiments uses power line communication (PLC). A power line interface connects to a power line serving as a communication medium. An audio codec is coupled to the power line interface for encoding and decoding digital data to and from data suitable for use by the power line interface. A digital to analog converter receives digital decoded data from the codec and converts the digital coded data to a received analog signal. A receive audio amplifier amplifies the received analog signal to a level adequate to drive a speaker. A transmit audio amplifier amplifies a transmit audio signal and provides an amplified transmit audio signal as an output. An analog to digital converter converts the amplified transmit audio signal to a digital representation thereof and passes the digital representation to the codec. A control processor controls operation of the interface and the audio codec. A switch interface receiving a signal from a push-to-talk switch, which causes the codec to encode the digital representation and the power line interface to place an OFDM modulated version of the digital representation onto the power line.
