    摘要: A method and apparatus reduces error in a communication system that includes multiple orthogonal subcarriers by suppressing a subcarrier in a transmitting communication device and by equalizing a received signal in a receiving communication device. Subcarrier suppression is based on a determination of a signal quality metric with respect to each subcarrier or is based on a determination of excessive signal power overdriving an amplifier of the receiving communication device. Equalization of the received signal is based on an equalization function that reduces a multipath delay introduced to the transmitted signal when the multipath delay exceeds a tolerable multipath delay.

    摘要: To select a rate for data transmission in a multi-carrier MIMO system with a multipath MIMO channel, a post-detection SNR SNRl(k) for each subband k of each spatial channel l is initially determined and used to derive a constrained spectral efficiency Sl(k) based on a constrained spectral efficiency function fsiso(SNRl(k), M) of SNR and modulation scheme M. An average constrained spectral efficiency Savg for all subbands of all spatial channels used for data transmission is next determined based on the constrained spectral efficiencies for the individual subbands/spatial channels. An equivalent SNR needed by an equivalent system with an AWGN channel to support a data rate of Savg is determined based on an inverse constrained spectral efficiency function fsiso−1(Savg, M). A rate is selected for the multi-carrier MIMO system based on the equivalent SNR. The selected rate is the highest rate among all supported rates with a required SNR less than or equal to the equivalent SNR.

    摘要: A rate adaptive transmission scheme for MIMO systems, which can transmit a variable number of data symbol streams, provide transmit diversity for each data symbol stream, and fully utilize the total transmit power of the system and the full power of each antenna. In one method, at least one data symbol stream is received for transmission from a plurality of antennas. Each data symbol stream is scaled with a respective weight corresponding to the amount of transmit power allocated to that stream. The scaled data symbol stream(s) are multiplied with a transmit basis matrix to provide a plurality of transmit symbol streams for the plurality of antennas. The transmit basis matrix (e.g., a Walsh-Hadamard matrix or a DFT matrix) is defined such that each data symbol stream is transmitted from all antennas and each transmit symbol stream is transmitted at (or near) the full power for the associated antenna.

    摘要: Techniques to process a number of “received” symbol streams in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system with multipath channels such that improved performance may be achieved when using successive interference cancellation (SIC) processing. In an aspect, metrics indicative of the quality or “goodness” of a “detected” symbol stream are provided. These metrics consider the frequency selective response of the multipath channels used to transmit the symbol stream. For example, the metrics may relate to (1) an overall channel capacity for all transmission channels used for the symbol stream, or (2) an equivalent signal-to-interference noise ratio (SNR) of an Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel modeling these transmission channels. In another aspect, techniques are provided to process the received symbol streams, using SIC processing, to recover a number of transmitted symbol streams. The particular order in which the symbol streams are recovered is determined based on the metrics determined for symbol streams detected at each SIC processing stage.

According to an embodiment is a method for enhancing performance in a wireless communication environment. The transmission mode can be one of a precoding, space division multiple access (SDMA), SDMA precoding, multiple input multiple output (MIMO), MIMO precoding, MIMO-SDMA and a diversity.
