    摘要: A circularly polarizing plate comprises a linearly polarizing membrane and a quarter wave plate. The quarter wave plate comprises an optically anisotropic layer A and an optically anisotropic layer B. The quarter wave plate has such an optical characteristic that a retardation value essentially is a quarter of a wavelength when the retardation value is measured at the wavelength of 450 nm, 550 nm and 650 nm. One of the optically anisotropic layers A and B is a layer made from liquid crystal molecules, and the other is a polymer film or a layer made from liquid crystal molecules.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device is composed of a liquid crystal cell having TN liquid crystal, a pair of polarizing plates arranged on both sides of the cell comprising a polarizer and a pair of protective films provided both sides of the polarizer and an optical compensatory sheet between the cell and the polarizing plate. The optical compensatory sheet comprises at least two optically anisotropic films having optically negative uniaxial property, one film having an optic axis in the direction of the normal of the film and other film having an optic axis in a direction inclined at 5-50 degrees from the normal, and the sum of retardation value of the film having an optic axis in the direction of the normal and retardation values of two protective films existing between the polarizers is from 100 to 400 nm.
