IT IS DISCLOSED THAT THE MATURITY OF CROP-BEARING CAN BE HASTENED BY TREATMENT OF THE PLANT WITH AN AQUEOUS FOAM HAVING A DISCONTINUOU GAS PHASE COMPRISING CARBON MONOXIDE OR AN UNSATURATED HYDROCARBON HAVING FROM 2 TO ABOUT 4 CARBONS AT A DOSAGE ADEQUATE TO PROVIDE FROM ABOUT 1 TO 300 POUNDS OF THE GASEOUS AGENT PER ACRE. TYPICALLY, THE FOAM COMPOSITION CONTAINS UP TO 10 VOLUMES OF THE GASEOUS AGENT PER VOLUME OF LIQUID AND THE STABILITY OF THE FOAM IS SUFFICIENT TO MAINTAIN THE AGENT IN CONTACT WITH THE PLANT FOR A PERIOD FROM ABOUT 5 TO ABOUT 300 MINUTES, ADEQUATE TO PERMIT THOROUGH ASSIMILATION OF THE GASEOUS AGENT BY THE PLANT AND EFFECT THE HASTENING OF THE MATURITY OF THE TREATED PLANT.
Abstract:
A METHOD FOR PREPARING POROUS SULFUR PARTICLES BY DISCHARGING, INTO A VAPOR SPACE AT SUBSTANTIALLY ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE, WATER AND MOLTEN SULFUR IN INTIMATE ADMIXTURE TO FORM SULFUR DROPLETS HAVING A CONTINUOUS SULFUR PHASE AND A CONTAINED WATER PHASE, PERMITTING THE SULFUR DROPLETS TO SOLIDIFY INTO DISCRETE PARTICLES AND THE WATER TO SEPARATE THEREFROM. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY DISCHARGING MOLTEN SULFUR AND WATER FROM SEPARATE CONDUITS AND INTO INTIMATE ADMIXTURE IN THE ATMOSPHERE. THE SULFUR IS SOLIDIFIED INTO POROUS PARTICLES AND THE MONENTUM OF THE COMBINED STREAMS IS SUFFICIENT TO CONVE THE SULFUR TO A DESIRED LOCATION ON A STORATE PAD. THE INVENTION IS USED IN CONVEYING MOLTEN SULFUR FROM TANKS OF A TRUCK OR TANKER TO A STORAGE SITE FOR FURTHER DELIVER TO CONSUMERS.
Abstract:
An agronomically effective source of iron is provided in a plant nutrient solution as a soluble diferrate complex anion. The solution is effective for foliar application to plants and is compatible with plant nutrients commonly used for fertilization such as urea, ammonium nitrate and ammonium phosphate. If desired, water soluble salts of other trace metals can be added to the iron solution. Solutions containing the iron complexes have been observed to exhibit a greater agronomical effect on plants than exhibited by use of conventional iron sources such as aqueous solutions of water soluble iron salts or chelates of iron using conventional chelating agents. The solutions are also free of foliage or fruit spotting which frequently occurs with conventional iron sources. In a specific embodiment, a solution is provided which is effective for the foliar fertilization of pineapple and which contains a soluble ferric sulfatohydroxyl complex dissolved in ammonium nitrate or urea.

Silica-bonded silicate particles of improved crushing strength are prepared by admixing reactive silica sols with the siliceous particles in an aqueous medium under conditions of temperature and contact time sufficient to at least partially bond the sol and silicate, contacting the resultant combination with ammonium phosphate and/or the acid phosphates of either ammonium or one or more polyvalent metals having atomic radii less than about one angstrom and drying the resultant composite.

A METHOD FOR PREPARING CRYSTALLINE ALUMINOSILICATE ZEOLITE CATALYSTS HAVING A LOW ALKALI METAL CONTENT IS THE ZECLITE AND CONTAINING (1) A POLYVALENT METAL CATION, PREFERABLY AN ION GROUP METAL SND (2) A HYDROGENATION COMPONENT, COMPRISES PRE-CALCINING OR PRE-STEAMING THE POLYVALENT METAL CONTAINING ZEOLITE TO ADDITION OF THE HYDROGENATION COMPONENT. THE INVENTION ALSO INCLUDES THE SUBSEQUENT INTRODUCTION OF ADDITIONAL STABILIZING ELEMENT FOLLOWING THE PRE-CALCINING OR PRE-STEAMING BUT PRIOR TO ADDITION OF THE HYDROGENATION COMPONENT. THE CATALYSTS FIND PARTICULAR UTILITY IN HYDROCRACKNG AND HYDROTREATING PROCESSES.
