A new antibiotic 7-0-demethylcelesticetin (IV) is produced by the controlled fermentation of the new microorganism Streptomyces caelestis strain 22227a in an aqueous nutrient medium. 7-0Demethylcelesticetin is antibacterially active and also can be converted to various antibacterially active analogues.

Antibiotic tirandamycin producible by culturing Streptomyces tirandis var. tirandis in an aqueous nutrient medium. Tirandamycin is active against Bacillus subtiles and can be used to minimize or prevent odor in fish and fish crates caused by this organism.

THE LIPOXAMYCIN MIXTURE OF THE SUBJECT INVENTION IS PRODUCIBLE BY CULTURING STREPTOMYCES VIRGINIAE VAR. LIPOXAE VAR. NOVA IN AN AQUEOUS NUTRIENT MEDIUM. LIPOXAMYCIN IS THE MAJOR COMPONENT OF SAID MIXTURE. THE LIPOXAMYCIN MIXTURE AND LIPOXAMYCIN INHIBIT THE GROWTH OF STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS AND OTHER MICROORGANISMS, AND CAN BE USED TO INHIBIT SUCH MICROORGANISMS IN VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTS.
