In a liquid crystal display apparatus in which a liquid crystal domain having radially tilted orientation is formed in a pixel, high-quality reflection display with occurrence of an afterimage being suppressed is attained. The liquid crystal display apparatus of this invention includes a first substrate 110a, a second substrate 110b and a vertically aligned liquid crystal layer 120 placed therebetween, and has pixels each including a first electrode 111, a second electrode 131 and a liquid crystal layer located therebetween. The first substrate includes a reflection layer 116 having a concave/convex surface and an insulating layer 117 formed to cover the reflection layer. The first electrode 111 is placed on the insulating layer 117 and has a shape defined to exert alignment regulating force with which at least one liquid crystal domain having radially tilted orientation is formed in the liquid crystal layer in a voltage applied state. The second substrate 110b has a protrusion 125 protruding toward the liquid crystal layer in a region corresponding to the liquid crystal domain.

A method includes for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device includes: a sealant supplying step of supplying an uncured sealant to a first substrate or a second substrate; a dropping step of dropping a liquid mixture of a liquid crystal material and an additive to a region inside the sealant; a bonding step of bonding the first substrate and the second substrate with the sealant and the liquid mixture interposed therebetween to form a bonded substrate; and a curing step of applying the predetermined curing conditions with a voltage being applied to a terminal portion, and thereby curing the sealant and altering the additive to give a pretilt angle to liquid crystal molecules.

Providing an intermittent photo-taking device capable of correcting a focus drift in the optical axis direction by moving a stage to focus on a plurality focus position of a sample. The intermittent recording device 9 receives setting of a photo-taking timing for the intermittent recording, sets to a driving system 2 a plurality of focus points to take photographs of the sample in each photo-taking timing as relative positions with respect to a predetermined reference position, at each photo-taking timing, obtains a focus position as a reference position by the autofocus movement, varies the relative position between the microscope 1 and the stage 51 to focus on the set photo-taking position of the sample S on the basis of the obtained reference position and the relative positions, makes the photo-taking device 8 take photograph of the sample in each focus position, and captures the taken images.

By comparing an image of an observation object (S) acquired at each photographing timing with a previous image acquired at a photographing timing that immediately precedes the photographing timing at which each image has been acquired, the determination as to whether or not there is a change from the previous image in the observation object (S) is performed for each image acquired at each photographing timing. Then, by adding predetermined identification information to either an image for which a change from the previous image in the observation object (S) has been determined to be present, or an image for which a change from the previous image in the observation object (S) has been determined to be absent, it is possible to extract only an image in which a change from the previous image in the observation object (S) is present from among the saved images, on the basis on the identification information.

A signal transmission system over building or house wiring includes noise reduction circuit to reduce noise including asynchronous noise and synchronous noise. Received pulses are sampled in a given interval and the number of continous pulses in question during the sampling interval is counted. The pulses in question are ignored as noise if the number of pulse counting is less than a predetermined reference count and the pulses are treated as true signals if the number is more than said reference count.
