    摘要: An end of a seat belt is connected to an actuator that can selectively remove a slack from the seat belt. The actuator includes a main actuator unit, a flywheel which provides a maximum inertia effect for a given space, and a cushioning member for decelerating a movement of the moveable end of the seat belt following a certain initial travel of the moveable end. The main actuator unit produces an early rise in the vehicle occupant deceleration, and the cushioning member smoothly connects the time history of the vehicle occupant deceleration to a ride-down condition whereby the deceleration acting on the vehicle occupant is favorably spread over time, and the maximum level of the deceleration can be minimized. The flywheel contributes to a favorable shaping of the time history of the vehicle occupant deceleration.

    摘要: The present occupant protective apparatus includes a vehicle body in which a portion to be deformed on receiving a collision load (in the illustrated embodiment, the front side frames) is formed at least in front of a vehicle room (3), a structure made of a rigid body supported on the vehicle body in such a manner that it is movable backward on receiving the collision load (in the illustrated embodiment, the engine 6), seats (8) each including a seat belt (9) for constraining an occupant seated on the seat (8) and supported on the vehicle body so as to be movable in the back-and-forth direction of the vehicle body, and a power transmission mechanism for transmitting the backward movement of the structure to thereby move the seats (8) backward (in the illustrated embodiment, the cable 13). With use of the present occupant protective apparatus, the structure such as the engine is allowed to move backward as soon as a vehicle collision occurs and, with the backward movement of the structure, the seats can be moved backward. Due to this, in the early stage of the vehicle collision, in the seats and seat belts, there is generated deceleration which is higher than the deceleration of the passenger room of the vehicle body, thereby being able to enhance the occupant constraining forces that are given by the seat belts.

    摘要: The vehicle occupant protection system can significantly reduce the peak deceleration of the vehicle occupant even with a small vehicle body. The system comprises a seat supported on a vehicle body so as to be slidable in a direction of an input crash load resulting from a vehicle crash; a first member connected to the seat and adapted to deform under the crash load upon occurrence of a vehicle crash; a second member connected to a main part of the vehicle body and adapted to deform under the crash load; and a stopper or an actuator for applying a forward force to the seat relative to the vehicle body with a certain time delay after the occurrence of the vehicle crash; the first member being adapted to substantially deform only after the forward force is applied to the seat upon occurrence of a vehicle crash. Thus, in case of a vehicle crash or other high deceleration situations, the seat is accelerated rearward upon the occurrence of a vehicle crash by the first member resisting deformation while the second member deforms so that the restraining capability of the seat belt is enhanced. Thereafter, an acceleration in the opposite direction is applied to the seat by the application of the forward force to the seat relative to the vehicle body so that the equalization of the decelerations of the vehicle body and the vehicle occupant is achieved in an early stage of the crash.

    摘要: A seat belt tightening system adapted to be used in conjunction with a vehicle seat whose position can be adjusted, comprising: a deceleration sensor mounted on a vehicle body; a drive unit mounted on the vehicle body for producing drive power in response to detection of acceleration exceeding the threshold level by the deceleration sensor; a seat belt tightening unit mounted on the vehicle seat for applying tension to a seat belt with the drive power supplied from the drive unit; and drive power transmitting mechanisms for transmitting the drive power from the drive unit to the seat belt tightening unit, the drive power transmitting means being provided with coupling means for not interfering with adjustment movement of the seat. Since the seat belt tightening unit is mounted on the seat and the deceleration sensor is mounted on the vehicle body, an optimum position of the seat belt can be ensured irrespective of the adjustable position of the seat and the deceleration sensor is free from erroneous activation due to deceleration arising from the movement of the seat. Since the drive unit and the deceleration sensor may be formed as a single sub assembly, a fast response can be obtained, and the assembly work is simplified.

    摘要: A cable retractor having a spring loaded reel for winding a cable thereonto. The tension applied to the cable by the cable retractor is made to change as the take out length of the cable changes either by changing the effective radius of the reel or the effective spring constant of a spring member biasing the reel. Such a cable retractor can be advantageously applied to a rear shelf structure which lifts a rear shelf cooperative with the opening action of the tail gate of a three-door or five-door car by attaching the cable retractor to either the tail gate or the rear shelf and the free end of the cable taken out from the cable retractor to the other of the tail gate and the rear shelf. Thus, the rear shelf will not droop due to the increase in the tension of the cable when the tail gate is fully open and the cable retractor will not apply undue resistance to the tail gate in the early phase of opening the tail gate. Part of the cable may be still left wound on the reel when the tail gate is fully open so that the rear shelf may be moveable even when the tail gate is fully open.
