    摘要: Heads for perpendicular recording using a floating-trailing shield are described. The floating-trailing shield is separated from the main pole piece by a layer of non-magnetic material along its entire length and the air bearing surface of the floating-trailing shield is substantially larger than that of the main pole piece. The reluctance between the trailing shield and the underlayer in the recording medium is made so low that both are at the same magnetomotive force (or potential), so that no direct connection is needed between the floating-trailing shield and the yoke. When the head is used in a storage system with a magnetic recording medium with a soft underlayer, the floating-trailing shield is, in effect, magnetically shorted to the return pole piece during recording. In one embodiment the floating-trailing shield wraps around the sides of the main pole piece.

The magnetic head includes a write pole, a return pole and a magnetic shield that is magnetically connected with the return pole near the ABS and extends toward the write pole. The shield is formed with a notch at its edge closest to the write pole. The notch assures adequate physical, magnetic, and electrical separation between the write pole and the shield, while allowing un-notched portions of the shield to provide additional magnetic shielding.

    摘要: An embodiment of the invention is a head for perpendicular recording that has a trailing shield and side shields that are connected to the return pole piece by two studs of ferromagnetic material. The studs extend parallel to the track direction and are located a sufficient distance away from the main pole piece to reduce the flux flow from the main pole piece to the studs. Optionally the studs can be recessed behind the air-bearing surface. The preferred embodiment of the invention is a magnetic transducer with separated read and write heads for perpendicular recording.

    摘要: Heads for perpendicular recording using a floating-trailing shield as part of the magnetic circuit for writing magnetic domains in the recording media are described. The floating-trailing shield is separated from the main pole piece by a layer of non-magnetic material along its entire length and the air bearing surface of the floating-trailing shield is substantially larger than that of the main pole piece.     摘要: A perpendicular magnetic write head having a conformal wrap around trailing shield. The write head includes a write pole that can be configured with a trapezoidal shape as viewed from the Air Bearing Surface (ABS) and which includes a wrap around trailing magnetic shield. The magnetic shield has a trailing portion that is separated from the leading edge of the write pole by a non-magnetic trailing gap, and has side shield portions that are separated from first and second side portions of the write pole by first and second non-magnetic side gaps. The magnetic shield can be configured with notches at either side of the trailing portion of magnetic shield. These notches can extend in the trailing direction by a distance that is preferably ¼ to 1 times the trailing gap thickness. The width of the straight, trailing portion of the shield is preferable ½ to 1 times of the main pole width.

    摘要: A method of fabricating a single-pole perpendicular magnetic recording head to contain a bevel angle promotion layer that facilitates the fabrication of the bevel angle in a trapezoidal main pole. The bevel angle promotion layer is made of a non-magnetic material that is softer than the material (e.g., Al2O3) that normally underlies the main pole. In one embodiment, the bevel angle promotion layer is formed between an end of the yoke and the air bearing surface (ABS), with the top surface of the bevel angle promotion layer being substantially coplanar with the top surface of the yoke. In other embodiment the bevel angle promotion layer is integrated with a leading edge taper material, which is formed of a magnetic material, to broaden the magnetic flux path between the yoke and the main pole.
