The present invention holds the source document feeding direction downstream edge of a printed sheet ejected above a source document feed tray by means of a top ejection platform functioning as a printed sheet holding section in an area apart from source document feed rollers functioning as a source document feeding section. As a result, a printed sheet ejected onto top ejection platform is not fed automatically by source document feed rollers. Therefore, a printed sheet that has undergone image formation can be ejected without obstruction above source document feed tray of an automatic document feeder, checking and removal of a printed sheet are facilitated, and convenience is improved.

A tandem type color image forming apparatus has a plurality of image forming units. These units includes at least a plurality of spaced photosensitive drums, and a plurality of developing rollers for developing with toners electrostatic latent images formed on these photosensitive drums. The image forming units except the image forming unit for black color that may be highly frequently used are accommodated in the same first housing. The unit for black color is accommodated in another second housing. The first and second housings are made to be attachable to and detachable from the chassis of the apparatus main body independently of each other. Only an image forming unit with high frequency of inspection or maintenance can separately be detached, so that the work load for inspection or maintenance is reduced, and handling of the apparatus is easy.

An image developing apparatus has a photosensitive body, an image-developing roller, a toner feeding roller, a housing cassette, whereon the image-developing roller and the feeding roller are mounted, for storing the toner, a plate-like blade mounted on the housing cassette, a sheet member for preventing the toner from leaking, and toner sealing devices made of a resilient material for preventing the toner from leaking. The sheet member is displaced between a development area of the developing roller and a position of the pressed contact between the developing roller and the feeding roller. The sheet member maintains a uniformly contact along a longitudinal direction of the developing roller. The toner sealing devices are either mounted integrally to, or formed integrally with the blade as one unit, and provided at both ends of the blade. A space is provided between the toner sealing devices and the housing cassette. The structure of this invention realizes prevention of the toner from leaking in the image developing apparatus, since it effectively fills a space between the blade and the developing roller. Furthermore, the structure also improves productivity and reduces working processes, since it makes adhesion of the toner sealing devices unnecessary in manufacturing the image-developing apparatus.

Also when the unit is set in the apparatus, the sleeve is changed from the first state to the second state and vice versa. The intermediate transfer belt may be designed to move at a speed higher than those of the photosensitive drums. With this construction, a sag or dip of the intermediate transfer belt between any two adjacent photosensitive drums is eliminated, thereby preventing a color drift of the synthetic toner image.
