    摘要: A liquid crystal device includes a first substrate, a second substrate that is disposed to face the first substrate, a liquid crystal layer that is interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, a plurality of first signal lines and a plurality of second signal lines that extend in directions intersecting each other in a surface of each of the substrates, and a plurality of pixels that are driven via pixel switching elements disposed to correspond to intersections of the plurality of first signal lines and the plurality of second signal lines. Each of the plurality of pixels has a transmissive display region that emits light incident from the second substrate to the first substrate, and reflective display regions that reflect light incident from the first substrate. The liquid crystal layer has liquid crystal having negative dielectric constant anisotropy. Each of the plurality of pixels has an alignment controller that controls alignment directions of liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer, and a liquid-crystal-layer thickness adjusting layer that makes the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in each reflective display region thinner than the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the transmissive display region. In each of the plurality of pixels, the reflective display regions are disposed at least on both ends of an extension direction of the first signal lines.

In a tip portion of the projection 33, ribs 34 having a predetermined height are formed at a predetermined interval in the length direction of the picture frame. The photodetector unit is disposed on a first surface of the TFT substrate 2 that is in contact with the liquid crystal layer, and the surface of the photodetector unit except for the semiconductor layer 19L and its periphery is covered by a light-shielding layer 21. It is therefore possible to provide an LCD in which malfunction or reduced sensitivity of its ambient light photosensor due to light from its backlights is prevented with a simple structure.

    摘要: A wide viewing angle is achieved with a liquid crystal display device according to an embodiment of this invention, in which alignment directions of liquid crystal molecules are controlled by electric field between electrodes on a substrate. A pixel electrode and an insulating film covering the pixel electrode are formed on a TFT substrate. A plurality of concave portions and convex portions extending in parallel to each other are formed in the insulating film alternately. A common electrode is formed on each of the concave portions. And a CF substrate is disposed facing to the common electrodes. A liquid crystal layer is disposed between the insulating film and the common electrodes and the liquid crystal layer. When a predetermined voltage is applied to the pixel electrode to induce an electric field between the pixel electrode and the common electrodes, liquid crystal molecules are rotated along lines of electric force of the electric field in a plane parallel to the TFT substrate. Also, the liquid crystal molecules tilt vertically between the common electrodes symmetrically with respect to a center line between a neighboring pair of the common electrodes.
