    摘要: A flying cutoff apparatus for cutting longitudinally moving and axially rotating tubing includes a track positioned along and generally parallel to the direction of longitudinal movement of the tubing, a carriage mounted on the track adjacent to the tubing for movement along the track, a cutter mechanism mounted on the carriage adjacent the tubing and stationary relative to axial rotation thereof, and an actuator, such as a hydraulic cylinder, mounted on the carriage for moving the cutter mechanism relative to the carriage and between non-cutting and cutting positions. The cutter mechanism also is mounted on the carriage for movement with the carriage and relative thereto in transverse relation to the direction of longitudinal movement of the tubing between a non-cutting position wherein the cutter mechanism is disengaged from the tubing and a cutting position wherein the cutter mechanism clamps and thereby moves with the tubing as the same moves longitudinally and operates concurrently to cut the tubing as the same rotates relative to the cutter mechanism. The cutter mechanism includes a cutting roll disposed on one side of the moving tubing and a pair of backing rolls disposed on an opposite side thereof which clamp the tubing therebetween when the cutter mechanism is in its cutting position. The movement of the carriage and cutter mechanism with the moving tubing is due solely to the cutter mechanism clamping the tubing when in its cutting position.

    摘要: An apparatus for cutting hollow, metal, spirally formed pipes is disclosed. The apparatus uses two passive, rotatable knife blades to cut the pipe. An upper knife blade is positioned inside the pipe so that its cutting edge is adjacent to the inner pipe surface. A lower knife blade is positioned outside of the pipe so that its cutting edge is adjacent to the cutting edge of the upper knife blade in the lateral direction, but is clear of the pipe and upper knife blade in the longitudinal direction. To cut the pipe the lower knife blade is raised until its cutting edge overlaps the cutting edge of the upper knife blade. The knife blades then puncture the pipe. The pipe is rotated through the overlapping blades to completely cut the pipe. Since the pipe moves spirally (i.e., it moves forward while it rotates), the knife blades are adapted to move in the direction of the pipe during the cutting process. This permits the overlapping knife blades to cut the pipe rectangularly. The upper knife blade is attached to a cantilevered boom, and the lower knife blade is attached to a knife holder and a vertical raising device. These components are all attached to sliding guide rails so that they move with the cutting blades in the direction of the moving pipe during the cutting process.

    摘要: A tube cut-off apparatus includes a horizontally moving scarfing blade which opens up the top of a tube permitting a vertical moving cut-off blade to move through the opening and finish cutting the tube. An upper die plate supports the vertical cut-off blade and a locking cam arrangement includes spaced vertically extending cams which provide for longitudinal movement of clamping slides in turn opening and closing jaws of die blocks which support the tube to be cut. A horizontally movable slide member carries a scarfing blade which cuts horizontally the upper tube portion and moves out of the way to permit the vertical blade to shear through the tube. The scarfing and clamping arrangement is actuated entirely by the mechanism on one side of the apparatus with the cams performing the clamping function as well as the actuation of the slide member. The sliding blocks and associated clamping members are all supported on a T-shaped rail and the moving elements on the rail are confined and maintained in position by a retaining frame which surrounds the elements, the said frame having limited horizontal movement.

    摘要: A tube cut-off unit is arranged at the downstream end of a tube mill and is powered by a drive unit mechanically driven by the main shaft of the mill which drives the tube forming rolls. The drive unit mechanically rotates a crank which, through a link, reciprocates a slide along the path of travel of the tube. A tube cut-off blade on the slide is cam actuated to sever the tube. Means are provided to insure that the slide is moving at a constant speed and at the same speed as the tube when the tube is being severed.

    摘要: A swinging ram type cutoff press for severing lengths of elongated stock such as tubing is provided of the type in which a ram is supported for swinging movement to operate a cutoff die set. The cutoff press includes a power cylinder combined with a toggle link arrangement to produce the swinging movement of the ram. The relative geometry of the ram link support and the toggle mechanism coupled with the arrangement of the cylinder is such that a complete ram motion cycle is carried out during a single forward or return stroke of the cylinder. The force exerted by the cylinder and toggle mechanism is not resisted either by return springs or the weight of the ram, thereby further maximizing the usable power of the power cylinder. Accordingly, one may reduce the cylinder size requirements for a given application. In addition, the mechanical advantage afforded by the toggle mechanism provides for a maximum force at the ram full down position to maximize the force available for the blade stroke. Cylinder size requirements are further reduced by an alternate form of toggle mechanism which compensates for the fact that the cylinder delivers less force on retraction than on extension of its output shaft.

    摘要: A ram driven tube cutting apparatus of the double cut type in which sections of tubing are successively severed from a continuous length thereof by a notching cut followed by a severing cut, includes improved mechanism for clamping the tubing during the cutting process. A pair of opposed, complemental die jaws are mounted on slides controlled by spaced cam followers carried by the slides. A reciprocating wedge cam engages and forces the cam followers apart to move the slides thereby closing the jaws on the tubing. One of the cam followers comprises a roller mounted on an eccentric shaft which may be selectively rotated to adjust the clearance between the die jaws. The other cam follower is spring loaded toward the cam within a slide mounting provided in its slide and automatically shifts to an overload position to avoid damage to the mechanism when foreign objects become lodged between the die jaws. Each of the die jaws consists of a pair of die jaw portions having spaced, opposed forces defining a slot through which a severing blade may pass. The die jaw portions are removably mounted on the slides by bolts anchored with trap nuts slidably confined within a T-shaped passageway in the slides to permit adjustment of the spacing between opposed faces of the die jaw portions.

    摘要: An improved method and apparatus for cutting segments from a continuously moving stock piece are disclosed wherein a cut-off press is accelerated to exceed the speed of the stock piece and to substantially eliminate a pushing force by the stock against a positive engagement means. The force of acceleration is reduced and controlled to maintain a minimum bias in the direction of the stock movement by the positive engagement means when the cut-off press attains a velocity equivalent to the moving stock piece. The stock piece is severed into accurate length segments during reciprocal movement cycles of the cut-off press. Back pressure on the stock piece is substantially eliminated by establishing a positive pulling engagement between the cut-off press and the stock piece when moving in the same direction during the reciprocal movement cycles.

    摘要: The disclosure is directed to improvements in flying cutters, particularly shears for severing light gage sheet or strip metal. Conventional flying shear mechanisms include a severing mechanism which is accelerated up to the speed of a moving strip or sheet material and then operated to sever the strip while moving synchronously therewith. The cutter mechanism is then returned to its starting position in readiness for a further operation. The present invention is directed to a novel and unique form of conveyor support, which is arranged in a novel manner to automatically extend or contract in accordance with movements of the shear, so that the sheet or strip material remains effectively continuously supported on both sides of the shear.The conveyor support system of the invention includes driven conveyor elements, which are guided in part by the moving shear carriage, such that the relationship of the conveyor support to the shear carriage remains constant while the shear carriage is in motion along with the travelling sheet or strip material.

    摘要: Flying shear apparatus for cross-cutting moving sheet material including upper and lower cutting bars movable together in the travel direction of the sheet material and reciprocating means for moving the lower bar in a cutting direction toward said upper bar and transverse to the travel direction. The reciprocating means includes a drive shafat rotatably at a continuous rotational speed and levers for transmitting the rotation of the drive shaft to linear movement of the lower cutter bar. The pivot axle of one of the levers interconnecting the drive shaft with the lower cutting bar is connected to a press rod which is adjustably movable so as to effect changes in the cutting stroke without changing the rotational speed of the drive shaft. With this arrangement, the cutting stroke can be adjusted to accommodate varying thickness sheet materials and to accommodate selective non-cutting strokes so as to vary the length of material being cut. The press rod is adjusted by a rack and eccentric gear arrangement. The upper and lower cutting bars are interconnected by a pair of guide arms and a coupling member so that a driving connection need only be provided at the upper cutter bar. Each of the guide arms are pivotally connected at the upper cutter bar and at a coupling member pivotally mounted intermediate the ends thereof at the lower cutter bar. The upper cutter bar is provided with hydraulically or pneumatically actuable piston-cylinder means for effecting pivotal movement of the cutter holder accommodating the cutting blade so as to accommodate oblique angle cuts.
