The invention is applicable to comparatively heavy loads such as those transported in shipping containers and in such land vehicles as rail cars and road transport vehicles.

An intermodal container tipping apparatus includes an upper support structure configured to be releasably mounted to a container transfer device, such as a reach stacker or crane, and a second support structure configured to be releasably mounted to an intermodal container. The lower supports structure includes at least one arcuate beam. The at least one arcuate beam attaches the lower support structure to the upper support structure. Movement of the at least one arcuate beam relative to the upper support structure causes tipping of the lower support structure and any load attached thereto while substantially maintaining a relative position of the center of gravity of the load.

A puller device (10) for engaging with a pallet of the type having at least a bottom deck formed of a plurality of substantially parallel spaced-apart slats, such slat being fixed to the slat-coupling side of a stringer that extends substantially orthogonal to the parallel slats. The puller device has a puller portion (11) having an elongated configuration along an axial direction thereof. The puller portion has first and second ends that are distal from one another. An engagement portion (13) is fixed to the first end of the puller portion and is provided with a stringer cradling portion (14) that is fixed to the first end of the puller portion and extends transverse to the axial direction for communicating with the slat-coupling side of the stringer in the region between the spaced-apart slats. The engagement portion has a thickness that is predetermined to prevent same from being urged between the slat and the stringer. The device is formed of a single length of preferably cylindrical rod material defining a main rod member having a pulling loop or ring formed into an outer end thereof which facilitates connection to a pulling apparatus such as a forklift truck or power winch. The inner end is formed having a fist orthogonal bend leading to a first segment or portion which extends orthogonally from the first bend and the rod member, then a second bend leading to a second segment or portion which is orthogonal to both the first segment and the longitudinal axis of the rod member. This structure effects quick, positive, non-damaging engagement against an edge of one foot board of the pallet and beneath one stringer of the pallet to insure non-slipping pallet engagement.

Bolts 134 and 136 attach the Clevis plates to the container 114. The bolts 134 and 136 can be shear bolts.

An apparatus for lifting containers to elevated positions for charging or discharging of a fluent material. The lifting apparatus includes a support member for the container. This support member may include an integral means for inverting the container. The support member is fastened to a carriage member which is movably guided interior of an elongated tubular column member. The carriage member is elevated or lowered by a lifting means which is mounted interior of the column member. The lifting means is connected to the carriage member by a pivoted link member. In the absence of tension on the lifting means, the link member will stop any uncontrolled lowering of the carriage member to a lowermost postion in the column member. The column member is attached to a base member. A second embodiment of the apparatus discloses additional attachment of the second end of the column member to a support structure. This second embodiment may be adapted for pivoting the apparatus about a vertical axis located within the column. The column member may include internal reinforcement means.
