A load-bearing device including an overload indicator and a wire form overload indicator are provided for interconnection of load bearing connectors, preferably elongated load bearing connectors, for bearing a load. In preferred embodiments, the load bearing connectors are chains, ropes, wire ropes, cables, straps and the like, preferably chain. The wire form overload indicator preferably includes a wire form quick-link having a first thickness, and first and second elongated sides. The first elongated side preferably includes an interconnectable gap through which connection loops of the load bearing connectors can pass when the interconnectable gap is unconnected. The interconnectable gap includes a connection end and a connectable end, the connecting end having a connector capable of connecting the connecting end to the connectable end to close the gap. The second elongated side preferably has a portion having a diminished thickness as compared to the first thickness. The diminished thickness preferably has a predetermined load bearing capability and is calibrated to reduce the load bearing capability of the methods of making an overload indicator and a load bearing device including an overload indicator are also provided.

A tank weigh module includes a bottom plate that has two lower stop blocks protruding upwardly therefrom, and a top plate that has an upper stop block protruding downwardly therefrom into a space between the two upper stop blocks with a block free play clearance therebetween. A restraining pin is arranged to extend through aligned pin receiving holes in all of the stop blocks. In the lower stop blocks, the holes provide a tight friction fit for the pin, while the hole in the upper stop block has a larger diameter and provides a pin free play clearance. Motion of the top plate relative to the bottom plate in the back-and-forth Y-direction is limited to the extent of the block free play clearance. Travel of the top plate in the side-to-side X-direction and in the uplift Z-direction is restrained by the extent of the pin free play clearance. Tilting and twisting about the X-, Y-, and Z-axes are also limited by the pin interacting with the blocks and the blocks interacting with each other. A load cell is secured in position between the top and bottom plates by two fixed securing pins and a third removable securing pin attached to the bottom plate, whereby the securing pins are angularly offset by 120° from each other. The weigh module has a simple construction, installation, and servicing, and provides protection against excess uplift, side loading, and tilting while allow complete free floating operation in a normal operating range.

A load cell weighing apparatus (1) includes a base (7) and a load plate (11) and a load cell (9) mounted between the two. The base (7) includes four load arrestors (17) capable of precise adjustment. Each load arrestor (17) has a pin support (18) with three vertical holes (19) of different depths and a pin (21) which is placed in one of the holes (19). The load arrestors (17) prevent damage to the load cell (9) by limiting vertical movement of the load plate (11) with respect to the base (9). The amount of relative movement is easily and quickly adjusted by simply repositioning the pins from holes of one depth to holes of another depth.

Theload cell herein disclosed is designed for precise measurement of forces along or parallel to a single axis, while being substantially immune to forces applied along the other mutually perpendicular axes as well as moments applied about any of the three mutually perpendicular axes. Rigid force input and force output members are resiliently interconnected by a pair of parallel flexure beams which establish with such members a parallelogram type of linkage which is relatively yieldable to forces parallel to the selected measurement axis while being relatively stiff and unyieldable to forces parallel to the other two axes and to moments about any of the three axes. A strain gage-equipped sensing beam is mounted within the plane of the parallelogram linkage and between the two flexure beams. One end of the sensing beam is rigidly connected to the fixed force output member, while the other end is free to flex in cantilevered fashion responsive to displacement of the force input member. The sensing beam thereby provides part of the resilient interconnection between the force input and force output members, and is dimensioned so that its stiffness relative to that of the two flexure beams causes it to absorb 80 to 90% of the applied loads. Adjustable overload protection means are provided, which cause excessive forces to be safely by-passed around the resilient members and the strain gages.
