    摘要: The present invention relates to a system and a method for reducing access times for retrieving audio samples. The system uses a wave table cache. The wave table cache allows devices such as a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to retrieve audio samples in a linear fashion from the wave table cache at a rate much faster than individually fetching the required portions of the audio sample from the main memory of the system. The DSP may then use the audio samples to generate signals to create sounds based on the audio samples.

    摘要: A method for storing and transferring wave table audio samples from system memory to a cache unit. The method creates a linked-list of pages in system memory for storing the audio sample. The linked-list is actually a pointer list indicating the locations in system memory where the audio samples are stored. A Digital Signal Processor (DSP) is able to translate the starting address of the pointer list to retrieve a requested audio sample from the system memory. The requested audio sample is then transferred to the cache unit where the DSP is able to retrieve audio samples in a linear fashion at a rate much faster than individually fetching the required portions of the audio sample from the main memory of the system.

    摘要: A music system has a main system and a subsystem. The subsystem synthesizes musical tones, based on waveform data supplied from a cache memory as a temporary memory device, transfers waveform data stored in the cache memory in predetermined blocks to a tone generator according to progress of musical tone synthesization by the tone generator, sequentially stores next blocks of externally supplied waveform data in the cache memory at areas thereof which have become empty after the data transfer, and mixes together the musical tones synthesized by the tone generator and musical tones supplied from the main system. The main system includes a waveform memory and synthesizes musical tones, based on waveform data supplied from the waveform memory. The main system sequentially analyzes and processes performance data, synthesizes a musical tone when the main system is assigned to synthesize the musical tone, while it reads waveform data in the predetermined blocks from the waveform memory and transmits the same to the subsystem when the subsystem is assigned to synthesize a musical tone.

    摘要: A method for reproducing media items using a first entertainment device is provided. The first entertainment device communicates with a portable entertainment device via a wireless link. The method includes reproducing a first media item using media reproduction means; generating a media list of one or more media items for reproduction by the first entertainment device; collating the media list at the first entertainment device; designating a second media item as the next media item to be reproduced by the media reproduction means after completion of the reproduction of the first media item; and detecting whether the second media item is stored on the first removable storage medium. If the second media item is not stored thereon, the method includes storing media data relating to the first media item on a local storage medium for reproduction in dependence upon the media data stored in the local storage medium.

    摘要: In an access controller provided for a musical sound signal generating system, a signal generating section operates when a readout of wave data of one block stored in a working memory is completed in a sound channel, for supplying a next waveform request signal to a CPU, which requests a next block of the wave data for the sound channel. First and second buffer memories are connected between a recording medium and the working memory respectively through first and second buses which are independent from each other. A first transmitting section operates when receiving block specifying information from the CPU, which specifies a block to be read next from the recording medium, for transmitting the wave data of the specified block to either of the first or second buffer memory while reading the specified block of the wave data from the recording medium. A second transmitting section operates when the transmitting of the wave data to either of the first or second buffer memory is finished and during a period when the musical sound signal generation system is not accessing the working memory, for transmitting the wave data of the specified block to the working memory from either of the first or second buffer memory, to which the wave data of the specified block has been transmitted by the first transmitting section.
