Abstract:
A liquid-cooled armature bar end fitting-to-strand brazed connection. The end fitting is comprised of a main body and a cover, and defines a cavity, a bottom wall of which is defined in part by the cover. An armature winding bar strand package including solid strands and hollow strands arranged in a tiered array extends into the end fitting so that at least the free ends of the hollow strands extend beyond the bottom wall, into the cavity. The side wall of the cavity is spaced from the hollow strands. A braze alloy joins the strands to each other and to the end fitting. The braze alloy forms an isolation layer over the free ends of the solid strands and over the said bottom wall of the cavity to a depth above a horizontal junction between the main body and the cover.
Abstract:
A highly durable cable hose assembly for connecting a welding machine to the conductor tube portion of a pressurized air cooled welding torch includes a cable hose, a rear connector portion for connecting to a welding machine and a front connector portion for connecting to the conductor tube. The cable hose portion includes a gas hose for passage of inert gas, a plurality of cooling air tubes for conducting cooling air, conductive stranding for conveying electrical current for arc welding and a flexible outer hose jacket for enclosing the gas hose, the plurality of cooling air tubes and the conductive stranding in a generally tightly bundled fashion.
Abstract:
A method for metallurgically bonding a stator bar to a coupling to reduce the incidence of leak paths resulting from corrosion. The stator bar comprises strands through which a liquid coolant can flow. Adjacent ends of the strands are received in an interior cavity of the coupling through an opening in the coupling. A joining material is provided on a first portion of the stator bar within the coupling opening and adjacent the ends of the strands. The first portion is heated to melt the joining material. At essentially the same time, a second portion of the stator bar outside the coupling is also heated. Once the joining material is suitably molten, the first portion is allowed to cool while the second portion remains heated, thereby causing the joining material nearest the ends of the strands to solidify first.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a fluid cooled electrical conductor assembly. The fluid cooled electrical conductor assembly includes a terminal having an open end and a fluid passage in communication with the open end. A sleeve is at least partially received within the open end of the terminal. The sleeve is metallurgically bonded to the terminal, such as by solder. The sleeve has a flared end disposed around an electrical conductor and a distal end disposed adjacent to an end of the conductor. The sleeve has a longitudinally extending groove which is in communication with the fluid passage in the terminal. A casing is connected to the terminal and surrounds the conductor to thereby define a fluid passageway at a periphery of the conductor. During manufacture, a single sleeve is swedged onto an electrical conductor and subsequently cut in half to define two substantially identical sleeves which may be inserted into respective terminals.
Abstract:
A water-cooled, high-current docking plug-connector device designed particularly for automatic welding machines has a plug socket component (1) with elastic contacts (4,6) and a plug pin component (2) for insertion into the socket component (1), so that the components can be rotated relative to each other. In order to transmit high current with low voltages, without the danger of the elastic contacts lifting out of position, several contact ring groups (3) are positioned in axial succession within the plug socket component (1), each of which ring groups (3) has at least one slotted outer socket contact ring (4) with a contact surface (5) resting elastically on the inner surface of the plug socket component (1), and at least one slotted inner socket contact ring (6) with a contact surface (7) which, in the inserted condition, rests elstically on the plug pin component (2). The outer socket contact ring and the inner socket contact ring of each contact ring group have mutually interfitting tapered contact surfaces (8,9).
Abstract:
A DC kickless water cooled cable used in welding is disclosed in which the cable strand ends are crimped into the cable terminations with the aid of a D-clip, and then the D-clip, crimped cable end, and termination are press resistance welded together to form a low cost substantially integral connection.
Abstract:
A dual polarity terminal for a water-cooled, kickless welding cable having a plurality of electrical conductors, each half terminal having one half of the electrical conductors fixedly crimped thereto in a single manufacturing step. A series of overlapping bore openings in the end face of each half terminal form a socket which is mechanically welded to the sidewall of the half terminal in a press. A particularly shaped lie leaves an axially-extending depression near the rear of the half terminal which acts as a water passageway. An insulating strip electrically isolates the two halves of the dual polarity terminal.
