    Abstract: This invention is directed toward a system and method for scanning a scene or object such as a whiteboard, paper document or similar item. More specifically, the invention is directed toward a system and method for obtaining a high-resolution image of a whiteboard or other object with a low-resolution camera. The system and method of the invention captures either a set of snapshots with overlap or a continuous video sequence, and then stitches them automatically into a single high-resolution image. The stitched image can finally be exported to other image processing systems and methods for further enhancement.

    Abstract: A scanning apparatus comprises a transparent housing, a driving means arranged within the transparent housing, and an image sensor arranged within the transparent housing and driven by the driving means. The upper surface and the lower surface of the transparent housing are marked to define a transparent upper window and a transparent lower window. The image sensor comprises a contact image sensor and a supporting box for housing the contact image sensor. The small article to be scanned is facedown placed on the transparent upper window of the scanning apparatus when the scanning apparatus is in erect arrangement. The large article to be scanned is faced up placed and the user can align the scanning region through the transparent upper window and lower window. Therefore, the inventive scanning apparatus is applicable to scan article of both large and small size, and the transparent upper window and lower window facilitate the alignment of scanner for user for entire scanning or partial scanning of an article.

    Abstract: A scanner for scanning an image on a large-format medium and generating image information. The scanner includes a secondary substrate mounted to the frame and having a length spanning the width of the medium, and a plurality of sensor boards disposed on the secondary substrate. A plurality of sensor dies are mounted on each of the sensor boards. The scanner further includes a lens strip, mounted to the frame between the sensor dies and the moving means. Preferably, a die on each end of each sensor board overhangs the end of the board, and the sensor boards are mounted on the secondary substrate so that dies overhanging ends of the sensor boards are butted against each other. The sensor dies may be wired in groups, so that image information read from the sensors in a group passes through the same data path; image information is read from a first set of sensor dies, wherein only one sensor die from each group is in the first set; and immediately after reading image information from the first set of sensor dies, image information is read from a second set of sensor dies, wherein only one sensor die from each group is in the second set, and wherein each of a plurality of sensor dies in the second set is separated by at least one other sensor die from the sensor die in the first set that is in the same group.
