    摘要: Paper-like and non-woven sheet-form articles of superior properties are produced by a process in which an aqueous latex of a polymeric binder material of natural or synthetic origin is first foamed, as by beating with air, the resulting foamed latex mixed with a coagulant under vigorous agitation to form directly an aqueous suspension of mainly flocculent particles of uniform particle size distribution, the resulting suspension of binder particles admixed with an aqueous suspension of fibers and the resulting mixed suspension dewatered to form a sheet which is then dried. The binder particles obtained by coagulation of a foamed latex produce products of higher wet and dry strengths and are more efficient in that more of the binder is retained by the fibers and less is lost in the dewatering operation.

    摘要: Polymers of increased molecular weight are produced from plastic and/or rubbery polymers derived from vinylidene monomers by reaction with an organic halogen compound in the presence of an alkali metal hydrocarbon and also in the presence of an accelerator which is a Lewis base. The reactant polymers include polystyrene and similar plastic polymers and rubbery polymers such as polybutadiene and butadiene-styrene copolymers. The organic halogen compound is any carbon compound containing at least one reactive halogen atom per molecule. The halogen is fluorine, chlorine, bromine and/or iodine. The alkali metal hydrocarbon is preferably a ''''live'''' polymer containing reactive alkali metal, e.g., polybutadiene produced by polymerization of butadiene-1,3 by means of a lithium initiator. The Lewis base may be organic or inorganic, but it is preferred to use organic compounds and especially ethers. Preferred products are nonflow rubbery polymers.

    摘要: A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF FINELY DIVIDED STYRENEBUTADIENE COPOLYMERS FROM A CORRESPONDING COARSER COPOLYMER COMPOSITION WHICH COMPRISES DISSOLVING THE COARSER MATERIAL IN A HOMOGENEOUS SOLVENT MIXTURE WHICH CONSISTS OF AT LEAST ONE SOLVENT FOR THE COPOLYMER, AND AT LEAST ONE SOLVENT FOR THE COPOLYMER, THE NON-SOLVENT PART HAVING A HIGHER BOILING POINT THAN THAT OF THE SOLVENT; THEREAFTER REMOVING FROM THE MIXTURE BY VACUUM DISTILLATION THE SOLVENT PORTION TO AN EXTENT AT LEAST SUFFICIENT THAT THE DISSOLVED COPOLYMER IS PRECIPITATED IN THE FORM OF A DISPERSION, AND FINALLY PURIFYING THE MATERIAL THUS PRECIPITATED BY TREATING IT WITH FURTHER NON-SOLVENT WHICH IS HOMOGENEOUSLY MISCIBLE WITH THE RESIDUAL LIQUID.
