In spinning frame 1, rovings 11 are drafted with signals derived from a numerical sequence of having a 1/f fluctuation or signals derived from a melody or other sound having a 1/f fluctuation to yield a spun yarn 13 in which the diameter varies with said 1/f fluctuation, thus providing a natural, comfortable feel.

A method and apparatus for piecing a sliver and at least one of a leading yarn and a bobbin yarn. A nozzle member and a spindle member having a hollow spindle are provided. A relative spacing is established between the nozzle member and the spindle member. At least one of a leading yarn and a bobbin yarn is inserted into the hollow spindle of the spindle member relatively spaced from the nozzle member. The relative spacing between the spindle member and the nozzle member is decreased, so that the spindle member and the nozzle member mutually form an air chamber. A compressed air flow is directed into the air chamber. Sliver is supplied to at least one of the leading yarn and the bobbin yarn, and the sliver and at least one of the leading yarn and the bobbin yarn are pieced together.

A disk combination which permits a thread false-twisting device to be operated at a high withdrawal speed is disclosed. The false-twisting device has three parallel rotatable shafts. On a first shaft is a first inlet guide disk for guiding entering thread into a thread path. A second inlet guide disk on a second shaft guides the thread along the path. After the second inlet guide disk, a first working disk on the first shaft begins false-twisting the thread. The first working disk may be one of five working disks, each of which is positioned in the rotational direction from the preceding disk. After the last of the working disks the exiting thread contacts an outlet guide disk, also positioned in the rotational direction from the preceding disk. The disks may be made of a soft material, such as polyurethane, or may be rigid disks coated with a hard material such as nickel containing diamond particles. The thread can be drawn through the device at a speed in excess of 600 meters per minute.

A friction false-twisting unit has three upstanding parallel shafts supported on a base plate. Each shaft carries a plurality of friction disks and the disks are overlapping and interleaved for applying a false twist to filament yarn drawn through the array of disks where they overlap. To damp the oscillation of the entire false twisting unit, it is fastened to the machine bed through interposed damping elements. There is a holding mandrel on the base plate which passes through a guide sleeve. The guide sleeve is, in turn, attached to the mount via the damping elements. With the false-twisting unit absent, the damping elements tilt the guide sleeve and when the unit is in place, its weight in use returns the guide sleeve to a correct orientation, so that the plane of the side of the drive whorl on one of the shafts is parallel to the plane of the tangential drive belt for that shaft where that belt passes the drive whorl.

A whorl on the carrier-supported shaft nearest the fulcrum is normally driven by frictional contact with a continuously moving tangential belt but is disengaged from that belt in the swung-out position of the carrier so that the disks are arrested during introduction of the yarn.

An air nozzle utilized for false-twisting a fiber bundle to form a fasciated yarn, comprising, in series, an inlet and a fiber passage provided with at least a jet for generating a vortex within the fiber passage. The inlet has an opening of a flattened shape having upper and lower walls longer than the side walls thereof and has a size decreasing toward the fiber passage. The edge portion of the ribbon-like fiber bundle passing through the air nozzle strongly contacts the upper and lower walls of the inlet during the twisting operation by the vortex. As a result of frictional resistance with the walls, the twist angle of the edge portion fibers becomes less than that of the core portion fibers. This causes a tightly fasciated effect of the edge portion fibers onto the core portion fibers during the untwisting operation.

The air nozzle has a fiber bundle passage for allowing a fiber bundle to pass therethrough in a direction, the fiber bundle passage including an inlet, a smaller-diameter hole portion, and a larger-diameter hole portion which are arranged in series. An air injection hole has end opening tangentially and downstream in the larger-diameter hole portion. Air passages are disposed around the smaller-diameter hole portion and held in communication with the larger-diameter hole portion for increasing the force with which the fiber bundle can be drawn into the air nozzle. The air passages may be a plurality of slots defined in an inner wall surface of the smaller-diameter hole portion or a plurality of independent holes defined radially outwardly of the smaller-diameter hole portion.

The invention relates to a device for false-twist texturing, if appropriate with simultaneous drawing of multi-filament threads, said device consisting of a plurality of identical sections located next to one another, in which device the delivery mechanisms and heaters required for each working position are arranged in only one series in each case, the texturing machine has only one operating gangway and one creel installation, and the thread runs of the working positions of a section differ from one another in their angles and/or their length due to a slight oblique pull. These measures make it possible to use common texturing heaters and set heaters for the working positions of a section.The device is distinguished by a low energy requirement, ease of attendance and good accessibility of all the machine parts in case of repairs.
